Outright Winner and Each-Way
The most common and simple way of betting on the Masters and golf majors. Here you are picking a player to win the tournament outright. With each-way bets your stake would be doubled as you are really having two bets: One on the player to win the tournament outright and one on them to finish in the places at 1/5 of the total odds.
To Make/Miss the Cut
After Friday, there is a cut where only the top 50 players progress to Saturday’s rounds. A popular betting market is around whether players will make or miss this cut, the tournament favourites are usually unattractive prices to make the cut but there can be value in some longshots making it through, but who might not stand a chance of winning.

What is the Masters?
The Masters is the first golf major of the year and generates a special buzz with so much build up to the start. It is held in such high esteem by players and fans alike, with most golfers listing it as the major they would most like to win.
The tournament is the only major that is hosted at the same course every year, with a star-studded list of winners and iconic features like Amen Corner, arguably the most recognisable three-hole stretch in world golf.
Running from Thursday to Sunday, its format doesn’t differ from other majors but the prestige and unique challenges players face means it holds a special place in golfers' hearts.
When is the Masters?
The Masters is held in the first full week of April and is the first of the four men’s golf majors. The 2025 Golf Masters is taking place from Monday 7th April until Sunday 13th April.
Where is the Masters?
The Masters takes place every year at August National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. It is the only men’s professional golf major that always takes place at the same course.
The Masters 2025 Golf Schedule
The Masters Tournament takes place over a whole week, with practice rounds and the popular Par 3 Contest earlier in the week before the competitive part of the tournament begins in the second half of the week. Here is a typical schedule for the Masters:
Monday/Tuesday – Practice Rounds
Players are able to play the course and work on areas of their game. It is a much more relaxed environment and gives the pros a first chance to tackle any changes to the course.
Wednesday – Par 3 Contest
The Par 3 contest at the Masters is a fun, casual event played on a separate course to the official tournament. Players will often have friends, family members or their children caddy for them – the par 3 gives players a chance to relax before the intesity of the Masters truly.
The Par 3 Contest has gained a bad reputation among players, with some considering it cursed, as no player has won the Par 3 Contest and the Masters in the same year.
Thursday – Tournament Day 1
The Masters gets underway early on Thursday morning with an honorary tee-off by legends of the game. 2024 saw Tom Watson, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player tee off to start the tournament. Every player will play a full round of golf on the first day.
Friday – Tournament Day 2
The Masters is now in full swing and every golfer plays their second round of golf to try achieve a score low enough to progress to the next round. Scores from the first round of golf are carried into Friday's session. At the end of Day 2, only the top 50 players progress to the final part of the tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday – Tournament Day 3
With only the top 50 golfers now playing, the day starts slightly later with the tee times decided by reverse order of their scores on the opening two days. Scores from day 1 and 2 are still carried over, meaning those further down the table have a difficult task competing for the win.
Sunday – Tournament Final Day
Despite every golfer that progressed to Saturday still playing, it is usually a bit clearer who has a chance of winning. The scores from Saturday are carried on to Sunday's golf and the leaders will tee off last.

The Masters is available to watch on Sky Sports Golf for complete coverage of every day. You can also use free shot trackers online to keep up to date with players’ performances, although these don’t show TV coverage, only where shots are played from/to using a map.
How Long is the Masters?
The Masters takes place from Monday to Sunday, with the competitive rounds of the golf tournament taking place from Thursday to Sunday.
Who Can Play in the Masters?
The Masters offers a small field compared to the other golf majors, with the 2024 edition featuring only 89 players, compared to the 156 who teed off in the PGA Championship the same year.
Nonetheless, there are 20 different ways a player can be invited to compete in the Masters, with both professionals and amateurs having a path to play on the hallowed greens at Augusta.
How do Players Qualify for the Masters?
There are a variety of ways that players can qualify for the Masters, check out all the ways players can qualify to take part in the Masters, as well as how long they remain eligible through that method:
- 1) Masters Tournament Champion – Lifetime.
- 2) PGA Champions – Five years, honorary thereafter.
- 3) US Open Champions – Five years, honorary thereafter.

- 5) Winners of The Players Championship – Three years.
- 6) Current Olympic Gold Medallist – One year.
- 7) The first 12 players, including ties, in the previous year’s Masters tournament.
- 8) The first 4 players, including ties, in the previous year’s The Open Championship.
- 9) The first 4 players, including ties in the previous year’s US Open Championship.
- 10)The first 4 players, including ties in the previous year’s PGA Championship.
- 11) Winners of PGA Tour events between the previous Masters and current Masters that do not take place on the same weekend as Majors (if full-point allocations were awarded).
- 12) Qualifying for the previous season-ending Tour Championship.
- 13) 50 leaders on the Official World Golf Ranking for the previous calendar year.
- 14) 50 leaders on the Official World Golf Ranking for the week prior to the Masters tournament.
- 15) Current NCAA Division I Men’s Individual Champion – One year.
- 16) Current US Amateur Champion and runner-up to the current US Amateur Champion.
- 17) Current The Amateur Champion – One year, honorary thereafter.
- 18) Current Asia-Pacific Champion – One year.

Players can also be invited to participate at the discretion of the Masters Comittee, this is usually reserved for international players who may not be participating in the full PGA Tour and majors.

Most Successful Masters Players
Jack Nicklaus holds the record for the most Masters victories, having won the tournament six times (1963, 1965, 1966, 1972, 1975, and 1986) – he is also one of only three golfers to successfully defend the Masters title alongside Tiger Woods and Nick Faldo.
Tiger Woods has the next most with five, followed by Arnold Palmer with four victories.
What is the Green Jacket and why is it so Important to the Masters?
The Green Jacket at the Masters is an iconic prize given to the winner, with the ceremony something fans will gladly stay to watch. The Green Jacket symbolises their lifetime membership to the golf club and invitation to compete in the tournament.
While the jacket is the winner’s property, they are only permitted to take it away from the golf club for the first year of their victory. After this point it must be returned to the club house where it is stored and they can wear it when at the course.
The only exception to this is Gary Player, who took the jacket back to South Africa after winning and didn't return it to the clubhouse – instead he agreed to not wear it in public and keep it hidden out of respect for tradition.
What is the Prize Money for the Masters?
The prize money for the Masters has increased almost yearly to several million dollars. With those finishing inside the top 50 all receiving tens of thousands of dollars. The 2025 Masters total price pot is $20,000,000 with the winner receiving $3,600,000.
Other Golf Majors
There are four golf majors over the course of the season, all offering unique challenges and, apart from the Masters, take place at different courses every year. Take a look at the other golf majors below:
PGA Championship
The PGA Championship is the second golf major and is currently held by Xander Shauffele who won the 2024 edition. Held in America in May it attracts a large field of over 150 golfers and a valuable prize fund of over $18 million.
Winners of the PGA Championship are invited to play in the other three majors and The Players Championship for the next 5 years, as well as being eligible for the PGA Championship for life.
It has been held at different venues every year, with the 2025 renewal taking place at Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina.
U.S. Open
The U.S. Open is the third golf major and offered the largest prize pot in 2024, with $21.5 million dollars on offer. Bryson DeChambeau won the 2024 edition over Rory McIlroy. It is also played at different courses every year in America, with the iconic Pebble Beach occasionally hosting.
In line with the other majors, winners of the U.S. Open are invited to play in the other majors for the next five years, as well as the U.S. Open for 10 years. They also receive lifetime invitations to two of the five to the Senior PGA Championship and Senior British Open once they turn 50, as well as a five year invitation to the U.S. Senior Open.
The Open
The Open, or British Open, is the final major of the year and is generally considered to be the most prestigious as it is the oldest golf tournament in the world. The winner of the tournament receives the famous Claret Jug, entry to the next five editions of the other majors and lifetime entry to The Open too.
The current holder, Xander Schauffele, won the tournament at Royal Troon Golf Club. The Open also rotates location, but it is always played on a coastal ‘links’ course in the UK, often considered the purest form of golf. St Andrews in Scotland has hosted the most editions and is one of the most iconic courses in the world.
