Night nine quarter-final stats & tips: Thursday April 2
- TV Coverage: Sky Sports (1900 GMT)
- Format: Quarter-Finals, best of 11 legs
- Venue: Manchester
Michael van Gerwen v Stephen Bunting
- Season Average: 96.90 - 94.66
- Season 180s per leg: 0.29 - 0.29
- Season checkout %: 39.03% - 36.51%
Michael van Gerwen faces a fight to book his place in the Premier League Play-Offs this season but on very recent evidence it looks like he's well up for that battle and also producing the standard of darts which could well see collect enough points.
Of course, the question as always with MVG these days is can he do it consistently.
Last week in Berlin in defeated both Luke Humphries and Josh Rock to reach the final, where a superb average of 104 wasn't enough to beat an inspired Luke Littler and his reaction to the match-winning Big Fish said it all.
What a way for Luke Littler to win the night! Michael van Gerwen's reaction says it all 🤣pic.twitter.com/50OtgrUt3L

There were some pretty decent displays either side of that on the European Tour and during this week's Players Championship events so I'd inclined to back him to inflict another defeat on the struggling Bunting in Manchester.
I say 'struggling' in terms of results as he's still cut adrift in the bottom two of the table along with Josh Rock but he can count himself unlucky to have faced Littler in back-to-back quarter-finals and lose both with averages of 104 and 107 respectively.
The Bullet didn't produce anything to write home about during this week's Pro Tour action in Leicester and I fear another loss is on the cards.
Scoreline Prediction: 6-4
Gerwyn Price v Luke Humphries
- Season Average: 99.61 - 100.83
- Season 180s per leg: 0.32 - 0.37
- Season checkout %: 43.78% - 39.66%
SELECTION: 1pt Gerwyn Price to win and Luke Humphries to hit most 180s at 3/1 (Ladbrokes)
There's no need for Luke Humphries to push the panic button quite yet but he may soon start feeling the pressure about his top four chances if he doesn't get a run of form going soon.
Cool Hand has coasted into the play-offs alongside Luke Littler in both of their previous campaigns so this is the first time he's been embroiled in a battle and now we're well into the second half of the regular season.
A fixture against fellow contender Gerwyn Price will really test his mental strength especially given the performance level we've seen from the Iceman in recent weeks.
Price is averaging well over 100 across his previous two Premier League weeks which has consisted of five matches and both of his defeats have come to Littler by an aggregate scoreline of 12-9.
Last time these players met a fortnight ago, Price ran out a 6-1 winner with an average of 109.04 and while I don't envisage this to be anywhere near as one sided, I do think the Welshman will pinch the two points.
From a betting point of view, Humphries has the higher 180 per leg rate so if you double a Price win with his opponent hitting most maximums, then you can get 3/1 with Ladbrokes.
Scoreline Prediction: 6-4
Gian van Veen v Luke Littler
- Season Average: 97.88 - 102.34
- Season 180s per leg: 0.30 - 0.43
- Season checkout %: 43.39% - 44.46%
SELECTION: 2pts Luke Littler to win, hit most 180s and have highest checkout at 17/10 (Unibet)
After a sluggish start to the Premier League season, Luke Littler has stormed to the top of the table after winning back-to-back nights and we probably won't see him occupy any other spot from here on in.
The Nuke has averaged well over 100 in all but one of those six victories and last week his lowest was 105.72!

Gian van Veen returned to action from kidney stones a week too early last week and it showed in his performance as he averaged 91.50 in a 6-1 defeat to Gerwyn Price, and it was no surprise to see him sit out this week's Players Championship events.
A clash against Littler is the last thing he needs and I expect this to be one-way traffic in all areas of the game.
Scoreline Prediction: 1-6
Jonny Clayton v Josh Rock
- Season Average: 95.36 - 94.29
- Season 180s per leg: 0.31 - 0.29
- Season checkout %: 44.09% - 35.73%
Josh Rock finally got his first win of the season last week in Berlin when beating the table-topper at the time, Jonny Clayton, and now their paths cross once again.
It was the second pointless week in a row for the Ferret and he'll be eager to avoid a hat-trick of quarter-final defeats in a bid to ensure he maintains a comfortable cushion over those below him in the standings.
Clayton prepared for Manchester by taking part in the two Players Championship events in Leicester, with mixed results, while Rock opted to sit them out like several other Premier League players.
If Rock still harbours any lingering hopes of mounting a charge for the play-offs then he really needs to win the whole night in Manchester, and based on immediate form, Clayton is probably the ideal first opponent.
Scoreline Prediction: 4-6
Premier League night nine: Who wins in Manchester?
SELECTION: 5pts Luke Littler to win night eight at 7/5 (Ladbrokes)
Luke Littler is on a roll now and this is where we'll probably see him kicking on and hogging the majority of the remaining nightly titles.
He'll probably be a bit frustrated that he got off to such a slow start to the campaign and allowed many of his rivals to pick up £10,000 nightly pay cheques but now he's put himself in a strong position of break the record of most nightly titles in a season and most points.
Littler would obviously love triumph in the city of his beloved Manchester United and his performances should silence any City fans in attendance.
