An open-looking renewal, with preference for JANGO BAIE who ran as well as ever when a close fourth in the King George, despite the track not looking ideal for him. Upped further in distance, he is taken to reverse the Kempton form with Gaelic Warrior, who is respected given his Festival record for his leading trainer, while The Jukebox Man is unlikely to give up his unbeaten record over fences without a fight.
Daryl Jacob Insight
It looks a compelling Boodles Cheltenham Golf Cup and while rain is forecast, I don’t envisage this ground turning on the soft side, while the gallop should be a strong one.
Haiti Couleurs, The Jukebox Man and Jango Baie head a strong British challenge and they should all be prominent, but this can go to Ireland’s GAELIC WARRIOR for Willie Mullins.
I think it revolves around the first four in the betting, and while The Jukebox Man would be a great story I think Gaelic Warrior's time is now.
At Leopardstown last time he was a little bit too keen and I just think they didn’t make enough use of him at Kempton in a race that turned into a sprint in the home straight.
We know he stays, he’s well bred to stay, and now they think they’ve got a Gold Cup horse on their hands I think he’ll be ridden prominently and confidently by Paul Townend.
He’ll be well positioned throughout and the former Arkle winner has the gears to hold his pitch which is so important in this race.
Cheekpieces can inspire last year’s Inothewayurthinkin to his best performance in 12 months and he can follow Gaelic Warrior home in second for an Irish one-two.
It’s a fascinating race and I can’t wait for it.
