Commonwealth Cup winner over C&D in 2024. Looked back on the right path with a Group 2 success at York in May but below that form since, though not best drawn when sixth of 17 to Big Mojo in Sprint Cup at Haydock (6f, good to firm) 42 days ago. Needs to take a step forward.

Right back on track when winning a Group 2 at the Curragh (6f) in May but came in last of 17 to Big Mojo in Sprint Cup at Haydock (6f, good to firm) 42 days ago. Better than the bare result in this last year and smart on his day.

Took this 12 months ago and he teed himself up well for a repeat with a good second of 17 to Big Mojo in Sprint Cup at Haydock (6f, good to firm) 42 days ago. Merits serious consideration.

Consistent gelding who scored at Fairyhouse in June. Got back on the up when beaten a neck by Art Power in Renaissance Stakes at the Curragh (6f, soft) 20 days ago having not enjoyed a clear run under 2f out. This is tougher but he's a lively outsider.

Took his form to new heights last year, making the breakthrough at Group 1 level in Sprint Cup at Haydock then fifth in this when not seen to best effect. Resumed from 11 months off with a promising third of 11 in 5f World Trophy at Newbury, finishing strongly. A player back up in trip.

Runner-up in the July Cup and advanced his form further when winning 17-runner Sprint Cup at Haydock (6f, good to firm) last month by 1¼ lengths from Kind of Blue. Had a good draw there but this C&D scorer is still not taken lightly.

Verdict

A cracking renewal of this Group 1 sprint but it's still hard to side against French raider LAZZAT who impressed when taking the Jubilee Stakes over C&D at the Royal meeting in June and wasn't seen to best effect when fifth in Haydock's Sprint Cup subsequently. He can quickly resume winning ways at the chief expense of last year's victor Kind of Blue, although Montassib can also have a big say after his promising reappearance third at Newbury. Big Mojo and King Cuan complete the shortlist.
