Betfred 'Passionate About Sport' Handicap

Off time: 15:58 | Winning time: 1m 31.29s

(16)

Marshal Dan^p¹⁸

Age: 8| Weight: 10-0| J: H Crouch| T: H Main| OR: 87| D

11/1

Cheekpieces on for 1st time when capitalising on a reduced mark in 7-runner handicap at Leicester (7f, heavy) 18 days ago by 2 lengths from Hodler. Another bold showing is on the cards.

Form: 088961

(3)

Hierarchy^p,t²⁰

Age: 4| Weight: 9-12| J: K Shoemark| T: J A Osborne| OR: 85

16/1

Returned to winning ways at Goodwood (6f, good to soft) in September and again ran well back up in grade when third at the same C&D (soft) just under 3 weeks ago. Remains well treated on old form, so he enters calculations.

Form: 084413

(11)

Repertoire²⁶

Age: 7| Weight: 9-11| J: Callum Shepherd| T: D M Simcock| OR: 84| C| D

12/1

Course winner in May and having been freshened up by an 8-week break/dropped back down in the weights, was suited by way race developed when resuming winning ways at Windsor (8.1f, good to firm) last month. Already shown his vulnerability off higher marks so others appeal more.

Form: 652871

(1)

Love De Vega²⁰

Age: 4| Weight: 9-10| J: A Mullen| T: C Johnston| OR: 83| D

22/1

Bagged another couple of small field contests in August but found out off higher marks in deeper races since. Ground another major concern so he looks an easy swerve.

Form: 711840

(9)

Bay Breeze⁴²

Age: 4| Weight: 9-10| J: Ben Robinson| T: T D Easterby| OR: 83

25/1

Three wins this year but has lost his form recently and others make more appeal.

Form: 401000

(14)

Hodler¹⁸

Age: 4| Weight: 9-10| J: Ryan Sexton⁽³⁾| T: J R Boyle| OR: 83| D

4/1

Ploughed through the mud to win at Chester (7f) in May and got back on track when 2 lengths second of 7 to Marshal Dan in handicap at Leicester (7f, heavy) 18 days ago. Not taken lightly off the same mark.

Form: 086752

(13)

Marlay Park³⁴

Age: 5| Weight: 9-10| J: Paddy Bradley⁽³⁾| T: J R Boyle| OR: 83| D

14/1

Likeable type who resumed winning ways at Epsom in September. Recorded another good effort when runner-up there (7f) just under 5 weeks ago so needs considering.

Form: 534412

(8)

Bernardo O'Reilly³⁵

Age: 9| Weight: 9-9| J: Hayley Turner| T: R Spencer| OR: 82| D

12/1

Reliable sort who landed 6f Newbury handicap in April. Posted another solid effort when fourth of 25 in Ayr Silver Cup and probably remained in form having raced on the wrong part of the track when fifth at Haydock since.

Form: 274845

(10)

Al Marmar¹⁸⁵

Age: 4| Weight: 9-9| J: Marco Ghiani| T: S C Williams| OR: 82

66/1

Gained his sole win on turf at Ascot last July but below that level on 3 outings on the all-weather earlier this year. Ran poorly in a change of headgear when last seen at same course 6 months ago and has since switched yards (10,000 gns). Plenty to prove.

Form: 27-0030

(2)

Hieronymus^p¹⁹

Age: 7| Weight: 9-9| J: P Mulrennan| T: George Baker| OR: 82| BF| D

10/1

Long time without a win but did run well (seen to good advantage due to position/tactics) after 6 months off at Ascot last month. Not so good back on all-weather at Kempton 10 days later so will need to get back on track.

Form: 05-0026

(17)

Little Boy Blue^p,t³⁴

Age: 8| Weight: 9-8| J: Joe Leavy⁽⁷⁾| T: W G M Turner| OR: 81| D

28/1

Showed a good attitude to score at Chepstow in June and largely in good form since, finishing a respectable fifth at Epsom last time. Not dismissed.

Form: 364295

(18)

Dirtyoldtown³

Age: 4| Weight: 9-4| J: Kyle Strydom| T: Dylan Cunha| OR: 77| D

22/1

Probably needed the run on first outing since leaving Grant Tuer when down the field at Kempton last month but proved a let-down with headgear reapplied dropped to sprinting when last at Lingfield 3 days ago. Easy to look elsewhere.

Form: 0-09080

(6)

Lunatick²⁰

Age: 3| Weight: 9-4| J: Rob Hornby| T: H Morrison| OR: 78

5/1

Fairly useful colt who opened his account in a match at Brighton (1m) in September. Good second of 10 in handicap at Goodwood (8f, soft) just under 3 weeks ago so he ought to be in the shake-up once more.

Form: 920132

(12)

Hiromichi^p²⁶

Age: 5| Weight: 9-4| J: David Probert| T: J Channon| OR: 77| D

13/2

Proved better than ever when scoring for the third time this season in 16-runner handicap at Pontefract (8f, good to soft, 9/2) 26 days ago. Up 4 lb and looks capable of getting involved again.

Form: 800251

(7)

Ivory Madonna^b¹⁹

Age: 3| Weight: 9-1| J: R Havlin| T: R Spencer| OR: 75

14/1

Wasn't disgraced in a change of headgear when bumping into one at Kempton (7f) 19 days ago. However, her merit is fully established so it's probably best to look elsewhere.

Form: 456582

(15)

King Of Fury¹⁸

Age: 3| Weight: 8-12| J: J Mitchell| T: T Kent| OR: 72| BF

14/1

Looked the pick on form but couldn't run to the same level as his first 2 starts when runner-up at Leicester (7f, heavy) 18 days ago. Makes handicap debut and it remains early days.

Form: 332

(5)

Shandy Star^b,e/s⁷

Age: 3| Weight: 8-12| J: Jonny Peate⁽³⁾| T: R Fell & S Murray| OR: 72

22/1

Made the frame for the first time this season at Doncaster last week but has yet to recapture her 2022 form. Others make more appeal.

Form: 17-7774

An ultra-competitive closer in which the vote goes to HODLER, who looked back to somewhere near his best when finding only Marshal Dan too strong at Leicester last month (raced on disadvantageous stand rail), and with conditions sure to pose no issues, Jim Boyle's 4-y-o gets the nod to double his tally for the year. Lunatick, Hiromichi, Hierarchy and the aforementioned Marshal Dan are just a handful of potential threats.
