Both victories for Charlie Hills came in small-field AW events. No better than mid-division in 4 handicaps since joining this yard. Mark edging down returned to 6f but need to see more.

Form: 00-7800

Age: 4| Weight: 9-13| J: Faye McManoman⁽³⁾| T: N Tinkler| OR: 82| C| D

25/1

Just 1 lb above last winning mark, gained over 5f at Redcar a year ago but failed to come on for reappearance when seventh of 8 at Ripon last month.

Form: 3730-57

(21)

Mark's Choice¹⁰

Age: 6| Weight: 9-12| J: O McSweeney⁽⁵⁾| T: S England| OR: 81| D

18/1

Ripon specialist who added to his haul of placed effort 10 days ago. Same mark here and has good-value claimer on again.

Form: 201-843

(20)

Muscika^v⁷

Age: 8| Weight: 9-12| J: D Tudhope| T: D O'Meara| OR: 81| CD

16/1

Won 3 times last year but having been kept busy during the winter, is yet to fully fire on turf this season. He is now 4 lb below last winning mark as a result.

Form: 636080

(4)

Magical Max^p²⁸

Age: 5| Weight: 9-11| J: J Garritty| T: M Walford| OR: 80| BF| CD

14/1

Won both starts as a juvenile in 2019 (including over C&) but lightly raced since and failed to add to tally. Having missed all of 2021, he shaped well at Thirsk in April but disappointing back there 3 weeks later. Cheekpieces back on.

Form: 2040/30

(16)

Ventura Express¹⁵

Age: 5| Weight: 9-11| J: P Mulrennan| T: P T Midgley| OR: 80| BF

10/1

Well backed and stepped up on reappearance when finding only a well-handicapped rival too strong at Pontefract a fortnight ago (5f). Equally effective on this trip and seems sure to go well.

Form: 3230-42

(15)

Gumdrop²⁸

Age: 4| Weight: 9-10| J: O J Orr| T: R A Fahey| OR: 79| D

12/1

Chester nursery winner as a juvenile. Missed 2021 and given a kind ride on last month's reappearance. Dangerous if building on that.

Form: 55136/5

(5)

Pockley²⁶⁷

Age: 4| Weight: 9-10| J: J P Sullivan| T: Miss L A Perratt| OR: 79| D

80/1

First run since leaving Roger Fell when good ½-length second of 7 to Bowman in handicap at Carlisle (5.8f) in August. Found out in a better race a month later and off since.

Form: 323520-

(2)

Bellagio Man²³

Age: 4| Weight: 9-10| J: Cam Hardie| T: A Brittain| OR: 79

40/1

Maiden winner for Ger Lyons last year. Yet to match that form in handicaps for this yard, though last month's AW run was a bit more like it.

Form: 390-043

(19)

Internationaldream³

Age: 4| Weight: 9-9| J: Jonny Peate⁽⁵⁾| T: R A Fahey| OR: 78| BF| D

10/1

On a lengthy losing run and well held in this race a year ago. Never really looked like justifying support at Hamilton on Wednesday and may find things happening too quickly here.

Form: 0-08504

(3)

Ginger Jam¹⁵

Age: 7| Weight: 9-9| J: Rowan Scott| T: N Tinkler| OR: 78| D

14/1

Added to his tally at Bath (5f) in September and back to that sort of form when runner-up at that venue in April. Stuck at it quite well at Pontefract last time and worth another go at 6f, but could do with cutting out the tardy starts. Headgear off.

Form: 44-6253

(14)

Recall The Show^b⁸

Age: 5| Weight: 9-9| J: D Swift| T: S Dixon| OR: 78| D

11/1

Southwell winner in February and better form when second of 11 at Doncaster last week, headed only late. Up 3 lb but likely to give it another good go.

Form: 438402

(1)

Ghathanfar¹¹

Age: 6| Weight: 9-7| J: Jason Hart| T: Miss Tracy Waggott| OR: 76| D

11/2

Cashed in on a reduced mark at Wetherby last month and stuck to his task pretty well when fourth at Thirsk 11 days ago. This is a slightly deeper race.

Form: 572164

(7)

Lezardrieux¹⁴

Age: 5| Weight: 9-5| J: S H James| T: Grant Tuer| OR: 74| D

25/1

Back-to-back winner of 6f handicaps in August/September. Looked rusty over the minimum trip on recent reappearance and better expected this time.

Form: 11097-6

(11)

Adnaan³⁰¹

Age: 3| Weight: 9-5| J: Louis Steward| T: P Owens| OR: 82| D

10/1

Close fifth in the Super Sprint Stakes at Newbury and put experience to good use when off the mark in a novice at Newmarket a month later. Off since but retains potential as a handicapper.

Form: 45451-

(6)

Flying Pursuit^t¹⁰

Age: 9| Weight: 9-4| J: Brandon Wilkie⁽⁷⁾| T: T D Easterby| OR: 73| CD

50/1

Failed to come on for reappearance when eighth of 9 at Ripon 10 days ago. Very well weighted these days if he can spring back to life.

Form: 0000-88

(18)

Dark Shot^b⁸

Age: 9| Weight: 9-3| J: Jonathan Fisher⁽⁵⁾| T: S Dixon| OR: 72| D

40/1

Won twice at Catterick during the autumn and gave a bold show from the front back there last week, swamped late. That confirms he's in good nick.

Form: 803445

(13)

Golden Apollo^p,t⁸

Age: 8| Weight: 9-3| J: D Allan| T: T D Easterby| OR: 72| CD

8/1

Hasn't carried much of a win threat in 4 outings this season and have to go back to 2019 for last time he tasted success.

Form: 05-3796

(9)

Runninwild¹¹

Age: 4| Weight: 9-0| J: Callum Rodriguez| T: Mrs A Duffield| OR: 69| D

13/2

Often pulls hard but that didn't stop him keeping on for second at Thirsk 11 days ago. Up just 1 lb for that and he warrants consideration.

Form: 123-652

(8)

Tar Heel^p¹⁵

Age: 4| Weight: 8-12| J: D Fentiman| T: T D Easterby| OR: 67| D

50/1

Has tasted success only once but he returned to form from his easing mark when second of 10 in handicap at Ayr last month. Denied a clear run down at 5f a week later so that run can be overlooked.

Form: 06-6527

(12)

Our Little Pony⁵

Age: 7| Weight: 8-11| J: Laura Coughlan⁽⁵⁾| T: L A Mullaney| OR: 62

28/1

Offered very little in 2021 but more like it when fourth under a considerate ride at Pontefract on Monday. Out of the weights but well treated on old form if building on that.

Form: 00790-4

Forecasts

Ghathanfar (11/2), Runninwild (13/2), Golden Apollo (8/1), Ventura Express (10/1), Adnaan (10/1), Internationaldream (10/1), Recall The Show (11/1), Snash (12/1), Gumdrop (12/1), Ginger Jam (14/1), Magical Max (14/1), Muscika (16/1), Mark's Choice (18/1), Lezardrieux (25/1), Imperium Blue (25/1), Our Little Pony (28/1), Bellagio Man (40/1), Dark Shot (40/1), Flying Pursuit (50/1), Tar Heel (50/1), Pockley (80/1)

Competitive fare with the vote going to RECALL THE SHOW given he made a very bold bid from the front at Doncaster last week and he will be dangerous at this speed-favouring track if getting into a similar rhythm. Gumdrop's return to the track last month was promising and a case from a handicapping perspective can certainly be made, with Ventura Express completing the shortlist.
