Big improver for current yard, winning at Sandown (5f) in July and placed on 2 of his 3 starts in big-field handicaps since, latterly at York (5.4f) 24 days ago. Fancied to go well again.

Last year's winner (from 7 lb lower) who arrives in good order having finished fifth to Mondammej at Haydock last time. Doesn't appear to have much in hand, though.

Capitalised on a lower turf mark in 14-runner handicap at York (6f, good) in July, suited by the strong pace. Met some trouble at Chester next time and remains feasibly treated based on AW form.

Registered fifth success of the season when readily landing Stewards' Sprint at Goodwood in July. Down the field in the Great St. Wilfrid at Ripon last time but this more conventional track will help.

Looked highly promising early in his career and, while a bit underwhelming on AW earlier this year, he shaped as if he'd strip fitter for his latest effort at Newmarket. One to consider.

Displayed his customary zip when a decisive winner (sixth York success) of a big-field handicap at York in August, then ran a cracker behind Mondammej last weekend. Should give another good account.

Gelded and back to winning ways in Windsor handicap in June. Added to that in good style at Goodwood the following month but misfired at York.

Needs things to drop right but he's not short of ability, as his fifth in a Sandown Group 3 shows. Hasn't quite been in the same form since, though.

C&D winner who has been consistent since scoring at Catterick in July, so likely to give another good account even if others looks slightly better treated.

Quirky sort who delivered on previous promise when hanging on to beat Copper Knight by a narrow margin at Haydock a week ago. Only up 3 lb and this will likely be run to suit, so one to note.

Gained first win since the summer of 2019 in taking style at Salisbury (5f) in June. At least respectable efforts since, so not without a chance despite tricky draw.

Winless in Ireland, but he's fared much better for present yard, winning twice over 5f at Nottingham. Better than the result since (set too much to do at Windsor last time), so looks a big player.

Landed a four-runner event at Ripon in August and, having been strong in the betting, stepped up further when runner-up at York 3 weeks ago. Still relatively unexposed, so warrants plenty of respect.

Verdict

JAWWAAL didn't fire in last year's renewal of this, but otherwise boasts a fantastic course record and, having shaped encouragingly the last twice, he's worth chancing in a typically competitive renewal. Hurricane Ivor, who suffered trouble-in-running at York last time, looks a formidable opponent and recent Haydock scorer Mondammej is difficult to rule out.

  1. JAWWAAL
  2. HURRICANE IVOR (IRE)
  3. MONDAMMEJ
