Took advantage of a career-low mark and being on his best behaviour to score after a break at Chelmsford before flopping next at Yarmouth. Definitely best caught fresh these days so five-month absence coming in a positive; respected.
Head runner-up to the heavily supported Al Muffrih in the Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar (1m2f, good to firm) in May; modest since, including when weakening into fourth at Pontefract latest; continues to ease in the weights.
Fell when coming through to challenge two start ago so confidence building fifth at Newcastle latest should have him spot on again now. Contender in open looking handicap.
Developed into a really consistent sort at this level and comes here after second and third placed finishes when last seen in July, Earlier won at Nottingham and respected here with cut in the ground clearly appreciated.
Had a lot of success earlier in his career. Finished second at Goodwood in October 2018 in one of a number of near misses over the last couple of years. Underperformed at Wolverhampton latest but capable off this sort of mark.
Testing conditions should prove no problem having won on good to soft at Bath but she does have to now cope with a slightly higher mark. Looked back at the handicapper's mercy latest here when eighth. Changed hands since.
In good form this year having taken four races over a variety of trips although the handicapper looks to have caught up lately, Outran 25/1 odds over C&D latest but still looks at the mercy of better handicapped rivals.
Upped 5lb for his near last to first soft ground C&D success latest and having missed the break somewhat that doesn't look at all harsh. Very realistic chance to follow up and bold bid looks assured.
Third to Leader Writer over C&D latest (soft) and 7lb off for that 4¾L defeat so should get a deal closer. Wouldn't expect him to turn the tables however.
Midfield C&D effort latest behind Leader Writer gives him plenty to fins with a couple of these and hasn't looked well handicapped since winning a small race at Lingfield in February.
Six-time winner failed to really land a blow so far in 2019. Latest effort at Chester his best but even that gives him a but to find to make the frame.
Found the step up to Class 3 company beyond her when she was well-beaten into third. Now reverts to slightly calmer waters, but is still 7lb above her last winning mark. Two subsequent runs since then would suggest her turn isn't near.
Hit and miss run since June double and latest 10th of 12 at Newcastle where he has won in the past was a disappointing effort. Others more compelling.
Lightly raced filly second in first two starts before fifth at Thirsk when last seen in August. Opening mark of 76 is fair, and she has plenty of potential in this sphere if handling this much softer ground.
Forecasts
Leader Writer (11/4), Prince Of Harts (9/2), George Of Hearts (6/1), Alnadir (7/1), Defence Treaty (9/1), Scofflaw (12/1), Dourado (14/1), Beauty Of Deira (14/1), Saikung (20/1), Leroy Leroy (20/1), Central City (20/1), Secret Return (20/1), Los Camachos (33/1), Itsakindamagic (66/1)
Having won over C&D impressively last time out and beating a couple of these in the process LEADER WRITER looks the one to beat with a 5lb rise not overly harsh for what was ultimately a pretty cosy success. Dangers include Alnadir who should be ready to go close now after an unfortunate incident set him back two starts ago and unexposed Beauty Of Deira the bottom weight on handicap debut for much respected connections.
- Leader Writer
- Alnadir
- Beauty Of Deira
