Hasn't won since a Meydan success back at the start of 2016. Handicapper has cut him some slack but there was very little promise on his return at Wolverhampton in January following a long absence; others preferred.
Course winner but he's been a shade out of his depth in Listed company on his last couple of starts. May need this on his return and doesn't look obviously well-handicapped.
C&D winner whose last four wins have all come at this venue. Has been in and out of form a little recently but this handicap mark looks still within his grasp and he's not one to put a line through back at this venue.
Very consistent last year and returned with a respectable third at Haydock last time. May come on for that and while he's 4lb above his last winning mark, he's not without place claims.
Won four times last year but signs the handicapper has caught up with him on his most recent starts. May want quicker ground than what's likely here.
Won twice on AW last year and has hinted at a return to form in two starts for his new yard. Respectable fifth in a competitive renewal of Thirsk's Hunt Cup last time out and has place claims again here if he sees out this longer trip.
At his best with some cut in the ground and well below his last winning mark now, but with good reason after some below par performances. Ran okay in defeat in his sole start at this venue in April and yard in form.
Better on AW than turf and he's a regular slow starter, often a negative here. Ran okay in defeat when third of 14 here last time out but drawn wide and down the order on jockey bookings here.
Has an impressive strike-rate of five wins from 17 starts on turf and he's a course winner who returned with a game win at Redcar in April. Soft ground a potential excuse at Nottingham subsequently and may still be capable of better.
Registered his first handicap success when winning over 1m on good-to-firm going at Pontefract earlier this month. Raised 4lb for that victory and is one for the shortlist in this contest.
Forecasts
Red Mist (3/1), Knighted (5/1), Kripke (11/2), Gurkha Friend (11/2), Just Hiss (8/1), Give It Some Teddy (9/1), Fennaan (10/1), Anythingtoday (12/1), Fayez (14/1), Carry On Deryck (66/1)
GURKHA FRIEND loves it at this venue and the gelding gives the impression he may still have another handicap in him off this sort of mark. Tim Easterby's pair make some appeal and Give It Some Teddy may do better than his effort on soft last time out at Nottingham. Kripke is only up 4lb for his latest success and he isn't one to rule out.
- Gurkha Friend
- Give It Some Teddy
- Kripke
