Two respectable efforts so far over 6f but never really looked like landing a telling blow in his latest start. Appears ready for this step up in trip but may do better in handicaps further down the line.

Cost 20,000 gns and has a handful of winners in his pedigree. Stable can get one ready but has been quiet of late. The betting can guide but likely this son of Medicean will need a little further.

Cost £15,000 as a yearling and is a half-brother to five winners between 6f and 1m - all winners as juveniles. Interesting contender for a shrewd yard. One to note in the betting.

Cost 14,000 gns as a two-year-old, the sone of Bungle Inthejungle made an ordinary start over 6f at Salisbury earlier in the month. Bound to have benefitted from the run though, and his yard is going well. One to consider if supported.
Costy 13,000 gns and is out of a French dam, who was Listed placed before winning over an extended 1m1f. Yard very quiet and others more appealing for this.

Never a factor over 5f on debut here (good to soft); breeding suggests the step up in trip at least ought to suit but big improvement required after that modest debut run.

Cheap purchase that has been well held in both previous starts; his future lies in modest handicaps, possibly over further than this. Others much more readily preferred.

Cost just £2,500 and showed little sign of ability when last of 11 on debut at Goodwood last month. Hard to make a strong case for him on that evidence and probably safe to leave him out of the betting plans.

Another that has a big amount of improvement to find after a very modest start at Goodwood at the start of this month. Breeding suggests the trip will be ok but already has a lot to prove.

Swiftest

Cost just 6,000 gns but has winners in his pedigree and looks one to keep tabs on once he has some experience to draw from. One for the notebook today.

Forecasts

Critical Data (5/6), Dr Smolder (9/4), Swiftest (8/1), Ignatius (12/1), Isle of Wolves (16/1), Tribune (16/1), Mr Fox (25/1), Sohni Kudi (50/1), Milldean Felix (50/1), Milldean Billy (50/1)

Verdict

As ever in maidens, the betting market will be informative, as the likes of Tribune, Dr Smolder, and Critical Data are all worth scrutiny. However, preference goes to IGNATIUS on this occasion as he looks the part on paper and represents a yard that is very capable of having one ready to go first time out.
  1. Ignatius
  2. Tribune
  3. Dr Smolder
