Has proven effective over this distance in the past but has always looked most comfortable on turf, and therefore could find top weight difficult here up against some more seasoned AW campaigners.

Stand Guard27

Veteran C&D winner who has been restricted to three runs this year, but has managed to score over this trip at Kempton in that time. Just 2lb higher now but need to bounce back from disappointing subsequent efforts.

Hinted at a return to form over 1m2f at this course last time out when running a nice race in sixth, and has won two of his six races here in the past. 3lb lower in the weights and holds claims.

Seeks a four-timer having secure his hat-trick at Wolverhampton last time out. Up 3lb as a result but has turned a corner since stepping up to intermediate distances and holds leading claims once again.

Remains a maiden but has run some of her better races on Polytrack so far, including recent good runs here and at Kempton. Disappointing when favourite last time out, also at Kempton, but wears first-time cheekpieces here.

C&D winner in January of this year but not so good since, including when beaten 40L over this trip at Kempton last time. Needs to leave that form a long way behind.

Age: 4|  Weight: 9-5| J: K T O'Neill| T: Tim Vaughan| OR:  57

15-race maiden but has gradually been improving since switching to this yard, and ran well to finish third at Kempton last time. Has been dropped 1lb, and could hit the frame again.

Not the worst overall strike-rate for a low-grade handicapper, and won at Kempton in March off just 1lb lower, but needs to bounce back from a disappointing effort at Brighton last time when returning from a break.

Age: 4|  Weight: 9-3| J: William Cox(7)| T: C Gordon| OR:  55| D

1/19 in his career is hardly an encouraging strike-rate and he has been running poorly recently both on the Flat (beaten 31L at Kempton last month) and over jumps (beaten 118L in a Plumpton handicap hurdle last time out).

Clearly appreciated the step up in trip to record only his second win at Windsor last time. Previous victory came at this course (over shorter), and though he been raised 3lb he could still could go close.

Olympic Legendt16
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-0| J: G Lee| T: M R Bosley| OR:  57

Winner of a minor Naas handicap when trained in Ireland but hasn't got going for his current trainer, with this step up in trip needing to bring about plenty of improvement from a wide draw.

Tackles this trip for the first time having looked in previous races like she should relish the longer distance. A winner off this mark at Kempton in April, she is an appealing prospect with a top apprentice claiming 3lb.

L'ami De Rouge24
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-9| J: Ryan Tate| T: R J Smith| OR:  47

Eight-race maiden who has no particularly good form of which to speak, having been pulled up on his last visit here in July. Others hold far more convincing claims.

Hong Kong Joee/s17
Age: 7|  Weight: 8-8| J: Joey Haynes| T: Mrs L Richards| OR:  46

22 race maiden, who was third at Kempton last time out. Though he has run some of his better races here in the past, his form is difficult to get excited about, especially given his age.

Garcon De Soleil32
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-8| J: Rob Hornby| T: M Blanshard| OR:  45

Has hinted at a return to form the last twice over this trip at Kempton, in similar handicaps to this. On a similar mark now he could find this a good opportunity to at least fight for a place.

Age: 4|  Weight: 8-8| J: J Quinn| T: N P Mulholland| OR:  45

Yet to get off the mark but both second placed finishes have come on the AW and his low weight here might just given him a small chance of getting involved.

Forecasts

Raashdy (11/4), The Gay Cavalier (4/1), Marmion (7/1), Bergholt (15/2), Betsalottie (8/1), Olympic Legend (16/1), London Grammar (16/1), Tuolumne Meadows (16/1), Karam Albaari (20/1), Hong Kong Joe (20/1), Tommys Geal (20/1), Garcon De Soleil (25/1), Just Fred (25/1), Elusive Cowboy (25/1), Stand Guard (33/1), L'ami De Rouge (50/1)

Verdict

With so few of these in winning form it could easily be down to Raashdy to complete a four-timer, but that gelding is now 12lb higher in the weights compared to when he began his winning run and preference is for LONDON GRAMMAR. Hollie Doyle's mount steps up to this trip for the first time having looked like this distance should suit her down to the ground in her recent performances over 1m2f, and as a three-year-old it's perfectly possible she could improve further, especially at a new trip; she also won off her current mark at Kempton back in April. Garcon De Soleil has run fairly well the last twice and is another to consider.
  1. London Grammar
  2. Raashdy
  3. Garcon De Soleil
