6/1

Three wins (including 5f here) in a productive 2-y-o campaign but well held on Newmarket reappearance, albeit in a Class 2.

Form: 33316-0

Marengo Storm¹⁹

Age: 3| Weight: 9-9| J: Finley Marsh| T: R Hughes| OR: 80| D

9/4

Havana Grey gelding who built on his promising Kempton debut fifth in a race which has worked out well when a smooth winner back there (6f) 19 days ago. Reopposing runner-up Sargent Dennis boosted the form by winning a maiden here since. Looks on a good mark for handicap debut.

Form: 51

(4)

Comic Strip²⁶

Age: 3| Weight: 9-9| J: Liam Wright⁽⁵⁾| T: S & E Crisford| OR: 80

12/1

Dual all-weather nursery winner over 5f last year. Creditable third on 5f Southwell reappearance but below form tackling turf for the first time at Bath 26 days ago.

Form: 4112-37

(3)

Fresh Fade¹⁴

Age: 3| Weight: 9-9| J: Kieren Fox| T: M J Attwater| OR: 80| D

40/1

Won 1 of his 11 starts in Ireland last year. Below par when sixth of 8 in handicap at Lingfield (7f, good to firm) on return for new yard 14 days ago. Needs to have come on a good bit.

Form: 36045-6

(11)

Romantic Twilight²¹³

Age: 3| Weight: 9-6| J: Paddy Bradley| T: W Stone| OR: 77| D

22/1

Won a 6f Yarmouth nursery (good to firm) last October. Too free back at 7f on final start. Off 7 months. Probably best to watch.

Form: 525016-

(1)

Akabusi^b,t⁸

Age: 3| Weight: 9-6| J: T P Queally| T: M Murphy| OR: 77| D

20/1

Capitalised on a drop in grade when proving too strong for 7 rivals in Newmarket Class 5 (6f, good to firm) 8 days ago. Should remain competitive off 4 lb higher, particularly as he's well drawn.

Form: 2-94881

(12)

Up The Agenda¹²⁴

Age: 3| Weight: 9-5| J: Jonny Peate| T: Jack Morland| OR: 76| D

14/1

Made it 4-7 in handicaps when leading late on over 6f at Lingfield in January. Freshened up since and has to enter calculations back on turf.

Form: 10113-1

(13)

Generous Rascal³⁷

Age: 3| Weight: 9-5| J: Mason Paetel⁽⁵⁾| T: Dylan Cunha| OR: 76| D

11/2

Won a 6f Kempton novice last autumn. Creditable thirds in handicaps at Southwell (7f) and, having left Oliver Cole, Ripon (6f, good) this year. Enters the reckoning with his new stable enjoying a very good run of form.

Form: 012-33

(15)

Firewalker²⁵

Age: 3| Weight: 9-4| J: Rowan Scott| T: K P De Foy| OR: 75

7/1

Promise when beaten 3 lengths by one now rated 104 on debut at Southwell in December. Hasn't reproduced that level in 2 turf outings this spring but certainly no shock were he to resume his progression now handicapping.

Form: 2-94

(6)

Bintola²¹²

Age: 3| Weight: 9-3| J: Lewis Edmunds| T: Harry Charlton| OR: 74

20/1

Raced at 6f. Promising second of 10 in novice at Kempton last September. Below that level (seemed unsuited by emphasis on speed) at Southwell 5 weeks later. Brings unexposed potential to this handicap debut/reappearance but suspicion we may not see the best of her until she goes over 7f+.

Form: 626-

(10)

Ecclefechan⁸

Age: 3| Weight: 9-2| J: Donagh Murphy⁽⁷⁾| T: J Ryan| OR: 73| BF

12/1

Creditable 2½ lengths fourth of 8 to Akabusi in handicap at Newmarket (6f, good to firm) 8 days ago but is now a 10-race maiden.

Form: 442-554

(7)

Alkuwarrior²⁶

Age: 3| Weight: 9-0| J: Gina Mangan| T: C Mason| OR: 71

50/1

Maiden winner at Yarmouth a year ago but generally struggled since, including on last month's reappearance for a new yard.

Form: 66739-9

(8)

Powder Monkey³⁹

Age: 3| Weight: 8-13| J: Jack Callan⁽³⁾| T: G Boughey| OR: 70

15/2

Fair form in 3 qualifying runs over 7f/1m. Drops in trip for handicap debut. Not obviously well treated but he's with a good yard. Has been gelded.

Form: 235

(5)

Grey Horizon^v¹⁰

Age: 3| Weight: 8-12| J: Christian Howarth⁽³⁾| T: S Dixon| OR: 69| D

33/1

Won 4 times over 6f on all-weather for current yard at the start of 2026. The handicapper has looked in charge since but he had an excuse (raced on unfavoured part of track) when well-held fourth of 5 at Yarmouth last time.

Forecasts

Marengo Storm (9/4), Generous Rascal (11/2), Sargent Dennis (11/2), Kesta (6/1), Firewalker (7/1), Powder Monkey (15/2), Comic Strip (12/1), Ecclefechan (12/1), Up The Agenda (14/1), Bintola (20/1), Akabusi (20/1), Hayynah (20/1), Romantic Twilight (22/1), Grey Horizon (33/1), Fresh Fade (40/1), Alkuwarrior (50/1)

MARENGO STORM looks a useful prospect so an opening handicap mark of 80 could prove lenient. Sargent Dennis chased the selection home in a maiden at Kempton before going one better over C&D 12 days ago and is feared most ahead of Generous Rascal for in-form Dylan Cunha. Recent Newmarket scorer Akabusi completes the shortlist.
