Went the wrong way last year but returned from 5 months off with a good second in 10-runner handicap (4/1) at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 37 days ago. Current mark looks exploitable on that evidence.

Placed in back-to-back 1¼m Lingfield handicaps in January/February and can have a line up out through his latest effort there. However, underperformed back down in trip at Kempton on most recent outing.

Has made a good start to the campaign, benefiting from the step up to 1¼m when off the mark at Leicester recently. Nudged up 5 lb but could have more to come at this trip.

Fared much better than previously in handicaps fitted with first-time cheekpieces when third of 8 at Wolverhampton (9.5f) in February, albeit very much having the run of the race. Wouldn't be sure to bult on that.

Doubled his tally in cosy fashion in 10-runner minor event (15/2) at Lingfield (1¼m, AW) in March. Should remain competitive back on turf.

Regained the winning thread in a race very much run to suit at Brighton (1¼m) in August. Went off the boil in the autumn, though, so needs to get back on track after a break.

Got the job done in a 7-runner minor event at Wolverhampton (9.5f) in March but followed that with a below-par effort in race won by Hawaiian King at Lingfield on latest start. Bounce back called for.

Reached the frame in his first 3 handicaps around 1¼m and faced inadequate tests at 1m on his last 2 outings. Wears first-time blinkers and well worth another chance back up in trip.

Forecasts

Happy Chandler (11/8), Bizou (9/4), Celebrating Ethel (11/2), Haveagobeau (10/1), Read All About It (14/1), Beta Reader (25/1), Hawaiian King (28/1), Fighting Poet (33/1)

Verdict

HAWAIIAN KING has faced an inadequate test at 1m on his last 2 outings and is well worth another chance now fitted with first-time blinkers back over a more suitable trip. Happy Chandler has been nudged up 5 lb for his Leicester success but could have more to offer at this trip, while Bizou's current mark looks exploitable based on a good run at Wolverhampton on her most recent outing.
