Made it 3-3 on the all-weather and for present yard when landing a 4-runner Southwell handicap (1¾m) last week. Effectively 11 lb higher with his penalty here but he's clearly in rude health.

Model of consistency on all-weather this winter, scoring 3 times here since the turn of the year. However, the wheels came off at Newcastle where he suffered a heavy defeat 13 days ago.

More good efforts than bad ones since scoring on 2025 reappearance and, now 1 lb below that winning mark, he has to be taken seriously over a C&D where he has tasted success in the past.

Back-to-back Wolverhampton during the winter and while stepping back up in trip here will help having found things happening too quickly over 1½m last time, he may be in the handicapper's grip for now.

Produced a career-best when scoring over 1¾m at Ascot last summer but hasn't made much of an impact returned to the all-weather in recent months.

In good order on the all-weather since returning from a break in December, emerging on top in a very tight finish at Wolverhampton (1¾m) last time. Hard to quibble with a 2 lb rise and he's one to consider.

Good strike rate on the all-weather (6-18) and put in a good shift when a close fourth in the handicap won by Shrimp Shady back from a break at Wolverhampton. 2 lb better off with that rival now and she merits respect.

No show first 2 starts following a lengthy absence but returned to form from out of the blue (first run since reportedly undergoing a breathing operation) when striking at Dundalk (2m) last month. This is tougher.

Doubled her tally on second run in a handicap at Newcastle (1¼m) in January. Failed to fire next time but fared better when third back at Newcastle upped to 12.4f recently and this stiffer test could be just what she needs. Cheekpieces applied.

Not the most straightforward but is going through a good spell for current yard, winning at Wolverhampton in January and placed all 3 starts since (close third to St Faz at Southwell last time). Place possibilities.

Returned to form when runner-up in back-to-back Wolverhampton handicaps during the winter. Best to overlook latest effort but some of the others are more appealing here all the same.

Useful at his best but hasn't scored in this sphere since December 2023 and while he acquitted himself well when sixth of 10 in the Southwell handicap won by Arc Zoosve last month, others look more solid.

Signed off 2025 turf season on a winning note at Catterick and back-to-back winner of Newcastle handicaps at around 2m earlier this year. By no means disgraced at Southwell the last twice and not without each-way hope here.

Notched third win on the all-weather since joining Neil King this winter when proving ¾-length too good for Appie over a marathon trip at Southwell last time. 3 lb rise fair enough and he's impossible to rule out.

Forecasts

Shrimp Shady (11/4), Arc Zoosve (9/2), Selenic (6/1), St Faz (7/1), Appier (9/1), Diamond Bay (9/1), Charlie's Choice (14/1), Dance Time (16/1), Circuit Breaker (18/1), Trojan Storm (20/1), Riyami (20/1), Francesco Baracca (22/1), Vaguely Royal (33/1), Tarbat Ness (40/1)

Verdict

Several to consider in this competitive handicap and a chance is taken on DIAMOND BAY, who won on his reappearance last year off a higher mark than this and his consistency is another strong selling point. Lightly-raced filly Selenic may well improve now upped in trip with headgear enlisted and she is feared most ahead of Dance Time, who was beaten just a neck when fourth to Shrimp Shady at Wolverhampton and is now 2 lb better off.
