Star Of Guiting13
Age: 5|  Weight: 12-0| J: Craig Nichol| T: Ewan Whillans| OR:  121| C| D
His strong-travelling style has proved well suited to Musselburgh this winter, winning a pair of 2m handicaps (including Scottish County). Failed to cope with a very different test in Imperial Cup at Sandown last time but better can be expected back here.

Looked better than ever when following his Haydock success in December with an emphatic victory in 11-runner Carlisle handicap last month. However, he was rather disappointing in his hat-trick bid last time and looks high enough in the weights for now.

Light Fandangot21
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-12| J: Bradley Harris(3)| T: N P Mulholland| OR:  119| D
Has quickly found his feet since returning from an absence, winning a pair of handicaps over the extended 2m at Doncaster this winter. A 6 lb rise may not prevent another prominent showing.

Age: 7|  Weight: 11-8| J: Joshua Thompson(5)| T: Micky Hammond| OR:  115
French import who bagged a pair of 2m handicaps at Kelso in the autumn. Has struggled off higher marks since and her hopes are pinned on first-time cheekpieces (which are added to regular tongue tie) sparking a revival.

Improved again to make a winning handicap debut over 2m here in November. Saw off Star of Guiting on that occasion but behind that rival back here on his next 2 starts and well beaten in the Morebattle at Kelso last month.

This 10-y-o doesn't seem quite the force of old but his handicap mark reflects that and he took a step back in the right direction when third of 7 at Ayr (2m, heavy) a fortnight ago. Usually wears cheekpieces but a visor goes on for the second time now.

Age: 7|  Weight: 11-4| J: Danny McMenamin| T: A M Thomson| OR:  111
Free-going sort who is starting to look feasibly handicapped and returned from a breathing operation with a creditable third at Kelso (2m, heavy) last month. Enters calculations.

Heart Above20
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-1| J: Ryan Mania| T: Mrs Dianne Sayer| OR:  108| C
Course winner who landed a pair of Kelso handicaps in the autumn. Struggled in the Morebattle back at Kelso last month but this is more his level and he's dangerous to dismiss for a stable no stranger to success in this race.

Age: 8|  Weight: 11-1| J: Charlie Maggs(3)| T: I Jardine| OR:  108
Ended lengthy losing run at Perth (2m) last summer and back to that sort of form when creditable third of 9 over 2m here on New Year's Day. Shaped as if still in form when fifth here at the end of January and not disgraced over an inadequate trip on AW Flat last week.

Failed to win any of his first 26 starts but landed back-to-back handicaps at Sedgefield and Catterick fitted with a visor at the start of this year. Continued his run of good form in this headgear when 9 lengths third of 14 at Carlisle last time.

As good as ever when second at Newton Abbot in the autumn but has failed to reproduce that form in 3 outings at Carlisle since. Refitted cheekpieces need to have a positive effect.

Struck for first time in this sphere at Kempton in October for Daisy Hitchins. Placed on 3 of her 5 starts for present yard but not at her best when a well-held third to the reopposing Light Fandango at Doncaster last time.

Age: 6|  Weight: 10-5| J: Sean Quinlan| T: A Nicol| OR:  98
Point winner/maiden hurdler who has failed to make a significant in 3 outings since joining the Adam Nicol yard but the handicapper has given him a bit of a chance (5 lb lower than last time). Worth a second look in the betting.

Returned to form back hurdling in a change of headgear when 3¼ lengths third in handicap hurdle at Carlisle 12 days ago. Well handicapped if she can build on that.

Forecasts

Light Fandango (10/3), Star Of Guiting (13/2), Admiralty House (13/2), Vampire Slayer (10/1), As Fast As Wind (10/1), City Of Diamonds (10/1), Haarar (10/1), Gemini Man (12/1), Disco Annie (12/1), Ginger Mail (14/1), Ravenscraig Castle (16/1), Heart Above (16/1), Magnolia (20/1), Travis Wheatley (20/1), Book of Secrets (33/1)

Verdict

DISCO ANNIE has come down a fair way in the weights and might be worth siding with to build on a more encouraging effort at Carlisle recently. Star of Guiting's Musselburgh record makes him a must for the shortlist, while Light Fandango is a low-mileage 7-y-o with a progressive profile over this sort of trip. Admiralty House also makes the shortlist.
