Useful colt. Length second in 7.5f Tipperary listed race last month, showing good turn of foot to lead before outstayed late on. Open to further progress back down in trip but Jel Pepper was narrowly ahead of him when the pair clashed at Newmarket in July and receives 10 lb from him this time.

Winner on 5f Catterick debut in May. Bettered that form when twice third in July (latterly the Newbury Super Sprint) and not seen to best effect (denied clear run) when fifth on 5f Beverley nursery debut 18 days ago. Up in trip.

Came on plenty for debut when winning a 6f novice at Goodwood in May. Better than result (stamina stretched over 7f) in nursery at the Glorious meeting there last time but has a fair bit to find on these terms.

Made a winning debut in a small field at Pontefract (6f, good) last month and at least matched that form when runner-up in novice at Kempton (6f again) last Wednesday. More will be needed here.

180,000 gns yearling who ran to little better than a modest level on his first 2 outings but was much improved back from wind surgery when winning 6f Windsor novice last month. Well on top at the finish on that occasion and looks capable of even better.

Sergei Prokofiev colt who took the big-field sales race at last month's York Ebor meeting (6f, good to firm) last month, responding well. The slightly longer trip now shouldn't be an issue and can make a bold bid to land a second big pot.

Going the right way, the way he battled to edge a tight finish at Carlisle (6f, good) 10 days ago suggesting today's extra yardage is sure to be in his favour. Cheekpieces are added. Open further progress for top stable which won this in 2022.

Fair form on all 3 outings over 7f/1m. The shorter trip may not inconvenience this free-going sort but he'll need to find plenty of improvement to get heavily involved.

Looked a really nice prospect when winning 9-runner maiden at Newbury (7f, good to firm) on debut in July. Beaten at short odds under a penalty at Epsom next time but the winner gave that form a boost when landing a nursery last weekend. Remains open to improvement and player off a low weight.

Forecasts

Brussels (9/4), Calendar Girl (7/2), Jel Pepper (4/1), Song of The Clyde (13/2), Battle Apple (12/1), Poatan (14/1), Rising Empire (18/1), Tadej (22/1), Golden Brown (33/1), Mr Seagull (33/1), Kamakameleon (40/1), Slay Queen (40/1), Inca Heights (50/1), Overbudget (50/1), Gaga Mate (80/1), Bushwacker (80/1), Cashbox (100/1), Goldwork (100/1), Lion of Mali (100/1), Ambishio (125/1), Blakefell (150/1), Lady Britain (150/1)

Verdict

JEL PEPPER had the draw as an excuse for his defeat in a similar race at Naas last month and looks sure to make a bold bid on these terms if back to the level he showed when third in a Group 2 at Newmarket prior to that. Calendar Girl is interesting at the foot of the weights. Song of The Clyde is also shortlisted on the back of his win in a similar race at York, while Brussels has work on to turn the tables with Jel Pepper on Newmarket form but looks capable of better again for his top yard.
