Have to go back a couple of seasons to find his last win, and in truth he found life a lot harder last year; handles most ground and trip fine, but jury out as to what level of ability now remains.
Two wins in 22 starts on turf, and three more on the all-weather, latest win coming last September at Chelmsford; not a lot of room for manoevre off this current mark, but shaped well at Newcastle last week, and has fitness on his side.
Winner on handicap debut at Leicester last May, but couldn't quite achieve that level on two subsequent starts; room to improve though, and if ground doesn't get desperate, has his chance.
Some useful form at 2 and 3 but all rather gone the wrong way since, and he was well beaten at Newmarket last week (reportedly never travelled); blinkers now tried, which could help, so not totally written off just yet.
Winner in soft ground from a 3lb lower mark last August, so any further rain a plus, but that was over 12f and he may well find this on the short side. Others make a little more appeal.
Useful-looking gelding, capable of solid handicap form on his day and far from disgraced at Kempton when last seen, finishing fourth; good gallop would help his chance, but handicapper has him where he wants him at present.
Now 2lb lower than when scoring on seasonal debut last year, so well handicapped., and overall record after a break is very good indeed; trip ideal, first start for new yard and is a very interesting runner here.
First start for new yard, having left Jamie Osborne after being claimed last October; capable of good handicap form when on song, but may be happier at shorter, and is best watched today.
Won back-to-back handicaps last summer, showing some useful form when scoring here on the latter of them; found life a bit harder off revised mark after that, and might need this first start after a break.
First start for new yard, having raced exclusively for F Chappet in France to date; form of his Longchamp maiden win (dead-heated) not working out that well but in good hands, and worth a look in the market.
Won a couple of minor events on the all-weather last autumn/winter but he's paid the price for that, and this mark looks plenty high enough now; yard have had a winner since resumption but are tending to need the outing.
Winner on first start for this yard when successful on the Fibresand at Southwell last November, but couldn't repeat that form in three subsequent runs; possible that fresh is the time to catch him, and yard going well, so worth a second look.
Forecasts
Rhythmic Intent (3/1), Enigmatic (4/1), Gin Palace (8/1), Blue Cup (17/2), Fancy Footings (11/1), Loch Ness Monster (12/1), Manton Grange (14/1), Lawmaking (14/1), Love Dreams (16/1), Snow Ocean (20/1), Kodiac Harbour (22/1), Borderforce (22/1)
ENIGMATIC might be worth a bet in a wide open finale. His trainer has made a good impression in the short time he has been training and Enigmatic's record when fresh - 11141 after a break - suggests today might be the time to catch him. He handles a bit of cut too, and has a bit more going for him than his likely big odds might suggest. Fancy Footings is another that has gone well fresh in the past and may be the biggest danger, and although the trip is on the short side for Rhythmic Intent, he's bound to be staying on when others have cried enough.
- Enigmatic
- Fancy Footings
- Rhythmic Intent
