Top-weight who has never won on AW. Doesn't hold a sexy profile like others in this contest. Not beaten far into fourth at Newbury (1m1f; soft) last month which was a step back in the right direction after disappointing Epsom showing.

1-1 on AW which was achieved when he won here on debut over 1m. Been running okay in the main since then, but needs to bounce back from recent effort at Newbury (1m2f; soft) where the ground may have been to blame.

Makes AW debut, and steps back up in trip after finishing second at Leicester (1m4f; good to soft) in a slightly higher class event than this last month. Was second in a similar event prior to that, so should appreciate the ease in grade.

Took another step forward on second handicap start when a short-head runner-up at Thirsk (1m; good) last month. Been raised 3lb for that, but step up in trip should unlock further improvement. Only negative is form of the yard.

Gone off the boil since winning at Newcastle (1m; standard to slow) in June. Looked in need of a step up in trip when outpaced over 1m here last month. Still has a bit to prove though.

Narrowly failed in C&D follow-up bid when a neck-second here last month. Been raised another 3lb in the handicap for that agonising defeat which is fair as the leading pair drew two-length clear of the third. Major player once again.

Almost made perfect transition to handicap sphere when a short-head second at Carlisle (1m1f; good to firm). Only 2lb higher now, and has some decent maiden form. Should make amends as he steps up another furlong in trip.

Returns to AW as he steps up in trip after an underwhelming handicap debut at Newbury (1m; good to soft) back in June. Place claims off 4lb lower if improving for step up in trip.

3-3 on the AW, with all three of those victories coming at Newcastle. 5lb higher than the mark he scored off at Newcastle (1m2f; standard) back in August, but isn't fully exposed in handicaps and should be afforded maximum respect on return to AW.

Only 2lb above last winning mark, but that was back in May at Beverley (7f; good). Been running better than the finishing positions would suggest since then however, including when sixth most recently. More exposed than most though.

Forecasts

Power Of States (11/4), Junior Rip (5/1), Melgate Majeure (5/1), Queen Constantine (6/1), Rudy Lewis (7/1), Olympic Conqueror (8/1), Stormingin (10/1), Molly Mai (12/1), Liliofthelamplight (20/1), Foxes Flyer (33/1)

Verdict

Yet another competitive handicap card in which the vote goes in favour of OLYMPIC CONQUEROR who showed a good level of form in maidens, and then went agonisingly close on handicap debut when beaten a short-head into second. The likeliest danger to the selection will surely be Junior Rip who has ran a pair of excellent races over C&D the last twice, winning once and then narrowly failing in the follow-up bid last month. Rudy Lewis is also worth a mention after he showed good progress from his encouraging handicap debut when he was also a short-head second at Thirsk last month. Confidence would have been considerably higher in him if his yard weren't in such quiet form.
  1. Olympic Conqueror
  2. Junior Rip
  3. Rudy Lewis
