Fair handicapper; holding his form well since opening his seasonal account at Ayr (1m2f, good/firm) in August (amateur rider's event). Stayed on well over 1m1f last time at Carlisle, looking as though further would benefit; yet to try 1m4f.

16/1
Versatile mare who is operating below her best at present; plodded on past beaten rivals over 2m1f at Carlisle last time (first-time cheekpieces; retained). Takes a marked step down in trip, both course wins over further; trip not in her favour.

5/1
Modest handicapper on the Flat; took advantage of a much-reduced mark to score in this grade over today's trip at Thirsk in June. Most of his subsequent form is sound enough (always vulnerable to an improver); 6lb higher than his last win; stays well

Stable debut (cost 6,500 guineas in May); hardly comes with an enticing career record (1-21). Well supported on his last two starts for his previous yard (Sylvester Kirk); lightly-raced on turf, interesting to see what the market makes of him.

C&D victory came as part of a four win 2017 campaign but struggled throughout 2018 off mostly higher marks for Wilf Storey. Potentially well handicapped for this yard if they can find the key; usual tongue-tie returns back up in trip; interesting.

Slight ease in the weights appeared to allow him to finally get off the mark at Redcar (1m6f, good); value for a little more than the actual result. Not able to repeat that success in two similar C&D races; back 2f in trip, looks nicely treated.

8/13
Avoids a penalty and attempts a quick follow up having won an apprentice event at Beverley on Saturday; looked good value for his win and will be hard to beat. Needs to prove himself over this trip (first try at 1m4f), has an entry later in the week.

Losing run stretches back almost two years now but it's hard to say that he hasn't had chances to end that barren spell, often not going through with his effort. Likely to run his race but hard to say that he a sound proposition for win purposes.

Poor maiden (0-13); declared a non-runner on her last three scheduled starts, well beaten when last seen at Pontefract in July over 1m2f. Makes little appeal even in this modest affair, hood (tried once before) now returns.

Forecasts

Gylo (8/13), Dew Pond (5/1), Jan De Heem (17/2), Remember Rocky (14/1), Nearly There (14/1), Mr Sundowner (16/1), Question Of Faith (16/1), Masters Apprentice (25/1), Midnight Warrior (25/1), Shakiah (50/1)

Verdict

The first division of two modest 1m4f handicaps with Saturday’s Beverley winner GYLO who goes unpenalised for that win looking to have found his form. He faces plenty of older exposed handicappers and if he stays this extra 2f should record a second quick win. Nearly There appears to be the main danger having won nicely at Redcar he looks to be still in form although he does have to cope with a shaper trip/track. Dew Pond is consistent at this level but he doesn’t find much for pressure while the well handicapped C&D winner Mr Sundowner with his usual tongue-tie reapplied will be dangerous if he can find his previous form.
  1. Gylo
  2. Nearly There
  3. Mr Sundowner
