Looked promising as a three-year-old with his sole win coming at Newmarket (6f, good to firm). Bought for 50,000 gns by this yard in the winter but yet to convince over this sort of trip. Wears first-time cheekpieces.
Yet to win in 25 starts but he's been running well in defeat of late. A 4lb rise for a good second in a competitive Ascot handicap won't help though and others likely to better handicapped here.
Rattled off a hat-trick at the start of last year than started with a win in this race. Back below his last winning handicap mark but hasn't shaped like a return to form is imminent in two starts this season.
Returned to form this winter on AW with two wins at Newcastle over this trip. Disappointed on his return to turf last time and still a maiden on the grass but has run well in the past, including over C&D.
Just one win from 13 starts and badly out of form at the back end of last year. Best effort to date came with plenty of cut in the ground but entitled to need this run on seasonal bow.
A model of consistency throughout the last couple of years but yet to win over this far and entitled to need the run on his seasonal reappearance here.
Sole win in 12 starts came at Beverley (1m2f) but largely running well in defeat since that success and came on from a respectable reappearance with a good third at Beverley last time out. Not ruled out from a workable handicap mark.
Won back to back races at Kempton in December. Well beaten on turf debut last time but may need better with both a first-time tongue-tie and visor installed. Down 2lb and market may reveal expectations.
Prolific on AW and gained his first turf success in 11 attempts at this venue last time out over 7f. That was impressive and a few in behind have won since; respected back up in trip from 3lb higher.
Won twice last year, gaining a first win for this yard at Musselburgh (1m1f) in August. Has gone close on his last couple of starts and remains below his last winning handicap mark.
Found some form on AW at Newcastle this winter but has lost his way since. Yet to win from a mark this high and others preferred at present.
Hasn't won since 2017 and losing run stands at 24. Minor signs of a return to form last time when seventh of 15 at Thirsk and very well-handicapped if he can build on that.
Eight wins from 41 starts but yet to get his head in front in 14 spins on turf. Beaten short-priced favourite last time out and opposable from out of the handicap here; back down in trip.
Forecasts
Ambient (5/1), Hammer Gun (6/1), Kannapolis (6/1), Prevent (7/1), Bombastic (9/1), Straight Ash (11/1), Brother McGonagall (11/1), Lucky Louie (14/1), Paparazzi (14/1), Insurplus (14/1), Fire Diamond (16/1), Tamerlane (20/1), Fingal's Cave (25/1)
A competitive opener to the evening card at Doncaster but it might be worth taking a chance on FINGAL'S CAVE who shaped okay at Thirsk last time out. He has a long losing run to overcome but he's very well-handicapped if he is returning to form. Hammer Gun was impressive here last time out and the assessor hasn't gone overboard with his revised mark while Paparazzi shouldn't be ruled out having run well here in the past.
- Fingal's Cave
- Hammer Gun
- Paparazzi
