Gained due reward for some solid performances in top sprint handicaps by comfortably landing a competitive event at Haydock. The drop to 5f allowed him the opportunity to dominate his rivals and a 7lb rise still leaves him on a manageable mark.
Back to form last weekend and should finish closer to Dakota Gold than at Haydock. However, a 6lb rise for his York win demands a career best as he is yet tow in from a mark above 95.
Overcame disadvantageous terms to account for Tarboosh on Monday. A line through that rival gives him an edge over Dakota Gold and the 2016 Portland winner looks a long way ahead of the handicapper.
Won the 2017 Super Sprint on soft ground. Not at his best this term and a line through Tarboosh gives him a bit to find with a few here
Gave stable a second success in this race 12 months ago off 7lb lower. Arrives in form but not as well drawn as last year.
Beat El Astronaute in April and has run some good races in defeat. Latest run was well below-par and others have more obvious claims.
2-25 record but has been second nine times. Drops a pound for a good run at Ascot two weeks ago and blinkers on this time.
Needs a good gallop and should get that here. Beat Evergate at Ascot this year and looked unlucky last time. Dropped considerably in the weights, well drawn and represents 2017's winning trainer/rider combination.
On a long losing run and only tenth in this last year. Will be fitter for last week's return to action but still hard to see him ending a two year drought.
Took this in 2014. Form has dipped considerably in the second half of this season and hard to be confident he can take advantage of an attractive weight.
Fourth to Copper Knight last week. On a good mark at present but he would not want the ground too soft.
Behind stable companions Copper Knight and East Street Revue last week and unfavoured by the prevailing soft conditions. Others preferred.
All his wins have come in Class 5-6 company. Current mark is demanding and he is one of a few who needs the ground to dry out.
Made a flying start for this yard winning three of his first four starts earlier in the campaign. Struggled subsequently, but signs more positive on recent starts although he does not look up to this grade.
Forecasts
Captain Colby (7/2), Dakota Gold (9/2), East Street Revue (7/1), Storm Over (15/2), Blue De Vega (12/1), Foolaad (14/1), Copper Knight (14/1), Duke Of Firenze (14/1), Classic Pursuit (14/1), Bengali Boys (14/1), Evergate (16/1), Bowson Fred (28/1), Excessable (33/1), Tan (40/1)
Dakota Gold was highly impressive and the drop to 5f certainly paid off for this free going sort last time. However a line through Tarboosh suggests he has a tough task in trying to concede weight to CAPTAIN COLBY who is thriving at present and remains well-handicapped judged on his 2016 form. Robert Cowell has a good record in this and has a strong team including last year's winner Storm Over. However, it would come as no surprise if Blue De Vega proved the pick of the team granted luck in running.
- Captain Colby
- Dakota Gold
- Blue De Vega
