Ran best race of the season when second in Ayr Silver Cup (6f, heavy), and looked to be coming to the boil, but disappointed at York on Saturday without an obvious excuse, and needs to bounce back. Sound claims if doing so.

Has a little bit to find with stablemate Al Qahwa on Ayr Silver Cup running, but his fifth there was a solid effort, matching the form of his previous win over 7f here, and he's respected in his current mood.

Form a little patchy, but has won twice this season, most recently on AW at Chelmsford. Couldn't match that when a respectable fourth at Beverley last time, and opposable on balance.

Won on a sound surface at Chester (7½f) in July, but he's been struggling for form of late, and drops in trip having finished last over 1m at Pontefract on latest start.

Reliable entire who is best with plenty of cut, and in frame all four starts this season when getting conditions to suit, winning at Windsor in April. Good third of 16 to Bernardo O'Reilly at Ffos Las on latest run, and should be thereabouts again.

Winner of 6f handicaps on contrasting ground at York and Ripon in the summer, and solid fourth in Silver Cup at Ayr on latest start, albeit aided by a good 7lb claimer. Not ruled out from unchanged mark.

Both wins have come on Fibresand, but at least as good on turf, and fine neck second of 15 to Dark Power in a C&D handicap after a break last month. Unproven on deep ground, but bred to handle it, and remains unexposed after five starts.

Another of these to have contested the Silver Cup at Ayr, and he belied his age to finish an excellent third behind Snazzy Jazzy. Excuses on fast ground here since, and capable of bouncing back.

Can look like he's got his own ideas at times but capable on a going day, and wasn't far behind Confessional at Chester last time. Better off at the weights with that rival, but must show he can repeat that effort.

Having second run in 24 hours when runner-up in Ayr Bronze Cup, and backed that up when fifth of 19 behind Captain Jameson at York last weekend, faring best of those held up. Clearly still in top form, and not dismissed lightly.

Has won four handicaps over this trip on turf since May, but those have come at a lower level of competition, and he has proven vulnerable in this class. Couldn't get competitive in a warm contest at Ripon last time, and this isn't much easier.

Forecasts

Lord Oberon (11/4), Tawny Port (4/1), Mobsta (7/1), Al Qahwa (7/1), Cold Stare (7/1), Quick Look (7/1), Dragons Tail (16/1), Confessional (18/1), Atletico (20/1), Merhoob (28/1), Private Matter (33/1), Mr Wagyu (40/1)

Verdict

He has yet to prove himself in the mud, but being a son of Mayson, there is every chance that he will relish it, and the unexposed LORD OBERON appears the one to beat here. Mobsta is always a force when the going comes up testing, and is respected, along with veteran Confessional, who is excused his last run when things didn't go his way.
  1. Lord Oberon
  2. Mobsta
  3. Confessional
