1m Windsor winner (October 2017) who hasn't appeared to be overly exciting on the AW so far (0-2); finished 2¾L third of five to War Of Succession on quick ground (1m) at Bath latest.

Dual C&D winner (last win came for this rider off a 1lb lower mark in May); runner-up in a 1m2f Class 6 Leicester apprentices handicap (good to firm) exactly two weeks ago; chance.

No win since her debut in October 2016 (1m), and is fitted with eye-shields for the first time after producing a laboured effort in a 1m2f Class 5 Sandown fillies handicap last week.

5/1
Ex John Gosden-trained 1m2f C&D winner (January 2017) who was sold cheaply for £4,000 in September 2017; wind surgery hasn't led to an upturn in fortunes and tough to enthuse over despite a steadily slipping handicap mark; wide draw.

Consistent of late, and was a winner at Chelmsford on his penultimate start (1m2f); races off a 4lb higher mark today, but holds realistic place claims despite the wide draw.

Neck C&D winner off this mark in December 2017, so merits respect on that form alone; no match for ready 5L winner Fresh Terms at Epsom (1m2f, good to soft) latest.

Five-time winner on turf, most recently at Epsom in August (1m2f, good to soft); poor effort at Chepstow latest (slowly away and tailed off), and 0-5 on the AW; inexperienced rider booked.

16-race maiden on turf, but lines up for his AW debut in a fairly low-key handicap; midfield finish under Timmy Murphy when sent off 3/1f for the Doncaster Legends Classified Stakes (1m, good to soft) latest.

Back on the same mark as when last successful over C&D in November 2017, but races from a wide draw here and has failed to beat a single rival in each of his last two starts (1m-1m2f).

Age: 3|  Weight: 9-4| J: S De Sousa| T: J Noseda| OR:  69
11/2
$210,000 juvenile who displayed minor ability as a youngster (placed on both 2yo starts); feasible that he's needed a couple of recent runs in order to sharpen up; not ruled out on second handicap start with Silvestre De Sousa aboard.

Le Maharajahb120
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-4| J: Josephine Gordon| T: Tom Clover| OR:  69

Lightly raced individual (0-5); appreciates racing handily and has a useful inside draw from which to attack; this is an easier option than the Class 4 contest he tackled over C&D latest; market a guide as the blinkers are applied.

33/1
Twice a winner from 19 career starts (1m-1m2f); runner-up off this mark on turf on her penultimate start (Windsor); mildly interesting to see how she fares on her return to the AW despite looking to be in the grip of the handicapper.

Mullarkey21
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-2| J: Jim Crowley| T: J R Best| OR:  62| D
20/1
6lb lower than when winning over this trip at Chelmsford in December 2017, but hasn't exactly blossomed in 2018; beaten just under 8L when fifth of ten to Lady Valdean at Leicester (1m2f, good to firm) three weeks ago.

Forecasts

Ban Shoof (3/1), Keswick (5/1), Staunch (11/2), Bayston Hill (6/1), Spanish History (8/1), Le Maharajah (8/1), Cheeky Rascal (9/1), Art Of Swing (16/1), Mullarkey (20/1), Assanilka (33/1), Music Major (33/1), Couldn't Could She (33/1), Caramuru (50/1), Miss Inga Sock (66/1)

Verdict

Not the kind of contest in which to become overly involved, but the course winners Bayston Hill and Ban Shoof are both capable of running into the frame. Cheeky Rascal is worthy of note on his first start on an artificial surface having started 3/1f for the Legends Classified Stakes at Doncaster recently (finished eighth of 16), whilst Le Maharajah is lightly-raced and has the ideal draw from which too attack in first-time blinkers. However, it could be worth chancing STAUNCH. He has yet to fulfil his juvenile promise (or $210,000 price tag), but makes only his second start in a handicap with Silvestre De Sousa aboard.
  1. Staunch
  2. Bayston Hill
  3. Cheeky Rascal
