Made a decent return in the Wokingham and ran on well in the Stewards' Cup despite pulling up lame, which came either side of a smooth Ascot success. In good form and a leading contender.

In good form this season with two handicap wins and has subsequently moved to a high mark. Comes here off the back of a decent enough run at Doncaster but others look better handicapped.

Has run in this on three occasions with a best finish of runner-up in 2015. Won a Listed contest last start and although has never won a handicap off this high a mark gets a useful 7lb claim that should put him right in this.

Returned with a nice win but has been well held in a Newmarket handicap and an AW Group 3 since. Looks a touch high in the weights and is overlooked on current form.

Ran fifth in this last year off 4lb lower and has some excellent course form. Can go well again following York win but drying ground looks to be going against him.

Won the consolation race last year and followed up at York. Subsequently held off higher marks but travelled well for a long way at Epsom and is slipping back to a winnable mark.

Beaten favourite in this last year but a talented sprinter at his very best. Ran a fine third when meeting trouble off this mark in the Stewards' Cup and has to be respected if reproducing the run.

Ran a career best when a neck second to stablemate Flying Pursuit in a valuable York handicap on his latest start. Up 5lb but could have plenty more to offer and seems to act on any ground. Leading contender in first-time cheekpieces.

Loves this track with eight course wins and his last two recent successes makes it seven over the C&D. Second and fourth in this in the last two renewals and this tough competitor is still on a workable mark. Looks a leading contender.

Won his first three and aside from his Doncaster win in June has been very disappointing since. Well beaten on previous run here and remains a hard horse to catch right.

Back to form at Newmarket and was a close third off 4lb higher in this last year. That would put him right in this but far prefers cut in the ground and the drying conditions have perhaps gone against him.

Has done well for new stable winning his first two of four runs and wasn't disgraced in the Stewards' Cup last time. More required off this current mark but drying ground would be in his favour.

Hasn't won since his stable debut but is slipping to a favourable mark. Stable has won three of the last seven renewals, however he is a touch inconsistent and reserves his best for softer ground.

Won five in a row, four on fibresand and won with cut at Pontefract over the winter but has struggled mostly since off higher marks. Handicapper has relented but this looks tough over this trip and on drying ground.

Won two handicaps last season and has been well tried in three Listed races and a Group 3 this campaign when running with credit on each occasion. Looked to be coming with a good run when her saddle slipped in the Stewards' Cup and can bounce back.

Fair performer in his prime but had been absent since finishing down the field in the 2016 Ayr Gold Cup when being well beaten on the AW for his new stable in June. Best watched in this company.

Has struggled this campaign barring his two runs over this C&D. Clearly suited by these conditions but a bit to find off current mark in this grade.

Easing in the handicap but remains 4lb higher than last winning mark. Return to this trip could prove a boost but plenty to find on recent form.

Impressive that he posted a career-best with an all the way win at Thirsk over 5f last time but much more to do in this company off 6lb higher. Has shown a clear preference for softer ground and the minimum trip.

Returned from a break with a good third at Windsor when forced wide. Remains lightly-raced and can build on that but concern that all three career wins came with juice in the ground and stable struggling for winners.

Forecasts

Golden Apollo (6/1), Growl (13/2), Kimberella (8/1), Teruntum Star (8/1), Gunmetal (10/1), Spring Loaded (10/1), Shanghai Glory (10/1), Marie Of Lyon (11/1), Al Qahwa (12/1), Pipers Note (14/1), Flying Pursuit (16/1), Ice Age (20/1), Dark Power (22/1), Brian The Snail (25/1), Reputation (28/1), Dakota Gold (33/1), Foolaad (33/1), Aeolus (33/1), Henley (40/1), Glen Moss (66/1)

Verdict

Spring Loaded has only had three runs this season and after running well despite pulling up lame in the Stewards' Cup, he should be spot on for a big run. That is a typically key race and MARIE OF LYON is likely to go off too long odds after looking a live danger before her saddle slipped. Her trainer has won two of the last five renewals and stablemates Growl and Kimberella, who has gone close in this previously, make a formidable team. Golden Apollo and stablemate Flying Pursuit can both go well after their fine York run but the former may be better suited by the drying ground. Terentum Star is respected on last year's win while C&D specialist Pipers Note rates a clear hope.
