The cheekpieces worn first-time when he was third at Hamilton are now discarded for a visor (first-time) as he bids to build on his third last time. Unsuited by the test of speed on that occasion he'll be better suited by a return to 6f.
First run for this yard having previously with Denis Hogan in Ireland and looks in good heart based on her recent efforts. Rather too high in the weights though to get involved though and help needed on that score.
Winner of this race two years ago he's won three times in all at this course with that win coming off a 7lb lower mark. Ran in a claimer last time under different tactics than usual (made all) but not the sort of form needed to make an impression.
Ran two of his better races at the start of last season winning over 6f at Salisbury and being placed at Newbury (0-70). Form after that was very in-and-out and ended the season on a low; may be best caught fresh as when winning last year.
Despite some winning form on turf he's a better contender on the AW; his last two wins have come on synthetics. Didn't run badly over C&D last time to finish 4th off a 2lb higher mark but not one to go overboard about.
Won twice last year as a juvenile (last win came off his mark) but his last couple of efforts have looked rather laboured with a touch of temperament to go with it. Doesn't look one to trust now and passed over in this.
Best excused her last run back from a break as the saddle slipped at Brighton. Was in good form at the start of last year when she won three times all off higher marks that she faces today; a danger if she does come back to form.
Still a maiden and his form is modest at best. Runs from 6lb out of the handicap here and his recent two outings don't give much hope of any progress.

Forecasts
Sfumato (7/4), Major Valentine (4/1), Swanton Blue (5/1), Gilmer (11/2), Indian Affair (8/1), Shovel It On (9/1), Winklemann (12/1), Beau Mistral (25/1), Burren View Lady (25/1), Jacksonfire (50/1)
It’s interesting that trainer Iain Jardine sends SFUMATO on the long journey from Scotland to South Wales having not had a runner here in the last five years. His charge looked as though he was a winner in waiting when running well last time out and he drops into a 0-70 for the first time back over 6f. Gilmer needs no introduction here having won this two years ago and now makes his debut for a new yard. Beau Mistral is dangerous if he bounced back to form off this lowly mark with Swanton Blue worth noting in the market, he might be best caught when he’s fresh.
- Sfumato
- Beau Mistral
- Swanton Blue
