Narrowly denied by an in-form rival at Ripon (1m, good to firm) 11 days ago. Nudged up 5lbs for not winning but lots of room for improvement and no reason why he shouldn't go well again.

Didn't seem to quite see out the 1m2f trip at Salisbury (good to soft) last time when getting caught late on. Drop back to this trip looks a good move and is clearly of interest here with Silvestre De Sousa back on board.

Just three starts so far and hinted at ability a couple of times. Steps up in trip and down in class today. May well end up better than this mark and a market check is needed.

Stayed on well in a weak race to pick up a handicap off a 7lb lower mark at Bath (1m, firm) three weeks ago. Up in grade here and should find this tougher but does have the potential to improve further.

Starting to become a bit frustrating having shaped like a step up in trip would suit, he didn't really see out the 1m2f at Newmarket last time. Well worth another go at this trip and probably worth hanging on to a bit longer.

Has struggled largely since springing a 66/1 surprise at Newcastle (7f, AW) back in November. Hard to make a solid case for in current mood and others are preferred.

Beaten a long way on both starts so far this year. Should be cherry ripe now and this trip promises to be more suitable. Down another 3lbs and hard to dismiss totally with improvement possible.

Started at 100/1 or bigger on all but one of his runs. handicapper has taken a swipe at him for unlucky run in a novice event at Chester last time which makes life incredibly tough once again.

Only had three starts for his current yard and is starting to look attractively handicapped. Needs to do much more than was offered at Wolverhampton last time however to be involved here.

Shrugged off some pretty moderate form to spring a 16/1 surprise at Redcar (1m, good to firm) last month before a solid effort at Newmarket (1m, good) two weeks later off this 7lb higher mark. Further progress is quite possible and a player.

Showed very little last year as a juvenile apart from inexperience and her debut was rather spoilt by her taking a strong hold. Will need to settle better here to take a hand; already dropped 6lb from a stiff opening mark.

Forecasts

Whitehall (13/8), Farhh Away (4/1), My Boy Sepoy (7/1), Thundercloud (7/1), Starboy (8/1), The Throstles (14/1), Naval Officer (14/1), Tebay (16/1), Island Court (25/1), Rockesbury (25/1), Miss Wolverine (50/1), Blue Harmony (50/1)

Verdict

Several in with a shout here in this competitive event. Farhh Away remains with plenty of potential and is feared. Any market confidence behind Tebay should be noted on handicap debut. Whitehall still remains with potential and he may need holding onto for as long as possible. The selection is NAVAL OFFICER who has looked like the step up in trip would suit and he ran with considerable promise at Windsor last time.
  1. Naval Officer
  2. Whitehall
  3. Farhh Away
