Made a significant improvement on her debut effort when last seen being beaten just a neck in a Wolverhampton maiden (7f, AW) in December. A repeat of that or better should put her in the mix again this time.
Improved for her C&D debut last month when running at Thirsk (7f, good to firm) last week. However, that effort would not be good enough to have a say here and a bigger step forward is required.

80-1 and last of nine, beaten 19L on debut at Wolverhampton recently. Failed to settle that day. If she can do so this time then we should see better from her, but she looks one to watch for now.

Made a promising debut at Kempton (7f, AW) in November and in view of that was disappointing when a beaten joint favourite at Wolverhampton last time. Others make more appeal on that evidence, although she is far from written off.

Fourth foal. Half-sister to two winners (one at 6f, the other 1m4f/1m5f) out of a 1m2f/1m3½f winning half-sister to Group 1 winner Sakhee's Secret. Stable's record with three-year-old debutantes suggests that she is one to watch.

700,000gns yearling. Comfortably held in two starts over 7f last season, failing to build on her debut run when tried at Salisbury next time. Could be capable of better with another winter under her belt. Market check looks prudent.

£3,800 yearling. Dam 7f-1m winner (inc. Listed), half-sister to 6f-7f winner Glencal and 5f winner Enodoc. Another from a stable whose three-year-old newcomers rarely win and a watching brief looks the percentage call.

Fourth foal. Closely related to 1m4f winner State Sovereignty. Dam placed over 1m2f and half-sister to useful sprint winner Jamaican Bolt. Others make more appeal pedigree.

6-1 and raced keenly on debut when a 13½L tenth of 16 at Newbury last month. Will need to settle better than that to improve today and that is not ruled out.

20,000gns foal. Half-sister to Irish 1m2f/Australian 1m7½f winner Fergus McIver and Qater 7f winner Dariga, out of 1m4f Group 3 winner. Stable going well and good debut not ruled out, though may want further.

More experience than most in the field with three runs, all to a similar level, so far. May come on for her Wolverhampton reappearance and the fitting of blinkers today and enters calculations on her turf debut.

Finished 6½L behind Perfection when 20-1 and tenth of 12 on debut at Wolverhampton (7f, AW) last month. Entitled to improve for that but may have to wait for other days.

Showed a bit of promise both on debut over C&D (good to soft) in November and for much of the way until weakening on her reappearance at Wolverhampton (1m½f) last time. Drop in trip looks positive for now and not ruled out.

Came on significantly for her Kempton debut when a neck second at Salisbury (7f, soft) in October, almost springing a 33-1 surprise. Pedigree offers hope of improvement now she has another winter under her belt. Interesting.

11-4 joint favourite on debut but never got involved and beaten 10½L over 6f (soft) at Doncaster. Conditions may have been an excuse. Better ground and further this time offer hope of improvement and she is not ruled out.

Has put together some respectable form in five runs so far without managing to get her nose in front. Beginning to look vulnerable but she sets the standard and should be thereabouts.

Forecasts

Ziarah (9/4), The Chemist (5/1), Perfection (7/1), Hesterya (8/1), Allante (8/1), Sary Arqa (10/1), Final Set (14/1), Teenage Gal (16/1), Catoca (20/1), Proceed (33/1), Mandukhai (33/1), Dame Vera (40/1), Angel Of The North (50/1), Geranium (66/1), Herringswell (80/1), Captivating Light (125/1), Midnight In Paris (200/1)

Verdict

Ziarah has achieved most of these on the racecourse so far but keeps finding something to beat her and she looks vulnerable to an improver in particular. One of those may yet be Final Set, while others include Allante, Hesterya, Perfection and Teenage Gal. However, the suggestion is THE CHEMIST, who was sent off as joint-favourite on debut but didn't appear to handle soft ground as well as she might. Good going and an extra furlong could be the key to a much better effort this time. Mandukhai looks the most interesting of the newcomers.
  1. The Chemist
  2. Perfection
  3. Allante
