Strong in the betting and making plenty of appeal on pedigree he overcame inexperience to make a winning debut at Exeter on soft ground. His rider barely able to ride him early he refused to settle but still managed to win under a fabulous ride.
Well behind Unwin VC on his debut when starting at 200/1 he's without the cheekpieces this time but makes very little appeal.
Successful on his third start in Irish point-to-points in October showing that he could act in testing conditions. Changed hands for £90,000 and shaped better than his final position (raced too freely) at Kempton on his only bumper start so far.
Stable always have to be respected in bumpers with a 30% strike-rate in this sphere this year and this well related sort has to be respected here. Half-brother to three winners including bumpers winners out of a dam who won over hurdles/fences.
Yard have a poor record in bumpers over the past five years 2/62 and this Gold Well gelding cost only €6,000 as a three-year-old. His dam was unraced but has some useful relations although others appeal more.
Stable do have their share of bumpers winners and he's the first foal of a 2m2f hurdle winner who herself is related to a couple of bumper winners. Not totally written off but run will probably be needed.
For a top yard this stable very rarely have a first-time out bumper winner and their overall record in this sphere is poor. His pedigree makes him an interesting newcomer despite that record though given his purchase price (£90,000).
Half-brother to four winners including the top-class Black Hercules and the stable although quiet this season do have winners in this sphere. Worth taking a look at what the market makes of his chances.
Stable have had have by their high standards a poor year although this sphere has been the one bright spot with a 30% strike-rate. Looking at his pedigree he looks one for the longer term and others may be sharper.
His two bumper starts so far have shown promise and he took a step forward from his debut second time out. Looks to need a greater test of stamina though based on his two runs so far and will be of interest when he goes hurdling.
Two bumper runs so far 10 months apart have shown very little and it would be a surprise to see him take a hand here given that form or lack of it.
Forecasts
Unwin Vc (9/4), Getaway Trump (9/4), Lamanver Pippin (7/1), Kauto The King (9/1), Officernisi (12/1), Dusky Hercules (14/1), Earth Moor (16/1), Carrick Roads (16/1), Nifty At Fifty (25/1), Corsecombe (200/1), Celtic Style (250/1)
Quite a decent bumper although it will be run in testing conditions and that may catch out some of the newcomers and given that thought UNWIN VC is taken to defy his penalty especially after his almost unbelievable victory last time; let’s hope he settles better this time. Getaway Trump is another who will need to settle better to take a hand but he may well do so with some experience under his belt. Of the newcomers Lamanver Pippin looks to be the pick given the record of the Harry Fry stable in this sphere with Dusky Hercules respected if the market speaks in his favour.
- Unwin Vc
- Lamanver Pippin
- Getaway Trump
