High in the weights now, but has enjoyed a good year and continues to perform with credit. Beaten 4¼L by Spring Loaded when third of 22 in the Portland at Doncaster last month.

A ready winner from a 5lb lower mark at Windsor in July (5f good to soft) and on the premises at Goodwood thereafter. Blew his chance at the start latest, and safe to draw a line through that effort.

C&D winner from a 5lb lower mark in August 2016 (good) and seems well suited to this track overall based upon his other efforts. Runner up (just held) off this mark at Beverley in April. Stable saddles three runners.

No stranger to success in big field handicaps over C&D at York, and ran well when beaten 1½L by stablemate Tylery Wonder at Naas last month (5f soft). Renews rivalry on 5lb better terms.

Best suited by testing ground, and unlikely to be as testing as he likes here, but there's no knocking a horse who has won four of his last five races, rising 25lb in the weights since early July.

Only won once in 19 starts (at odds of 1/2 in a Southwell maiden) so of course that's a concern. However, he finished third off a similar mark in the Sky Bet Dash here in July (6f), and was beaten a nose by Boundsy latest.

A likeable sort who is well suited by Musselburgh, and he was a winner there off a 6lb lower mark in July (5f good to firm). However, this is much stronger, and he was well beaten by Show Palace at Ripon recently (5f soft).

Won narrowly three starts back at Nottingham in June (5f good to soft) and finished in midfield in the Gosforth Park Cup thereafter. Back from a break at Ascot last week, and could be sharper now, but needs to be in order to figure.

Made all to take a C&D maiden on this day in 2016, and won on her next two starts earlier in the year at Redcar and Nottingham. However, up the weights and out of her depth in similar events to this one at York during the summer.

Still 4lb higher than when winning at Pontefract in late July (6f soft), but whilst his more recent efforts haven't been so sharp he did go close at Chester in August (beaten a neck by Guishan). Stable saddles three runners.

Hails from a renowned source of sprinters, and accounted for stablemate Monsieur Joe when making all to score at Naas last month (5f soft). 6lb higher, but applied similar tactics when winning over C&D in early July. Big player.

Solid performances (third) on his last two starts over C&D, including behind Tylery Wonder in July. Seemingly drawn on the wrong side at Doncaster latest, and could be a similar story today.

Strongest historically on the AW, but caused a 33/1 shock when beating Bogart by ¾L at Thirsk in late August (5f good). Backed that up since at Haydock and closely matched with Rasheeq.

An infrequent winner, with both career successes coming in the East Lothian at Musselburgh (5f). Hasn't won in a while, but posted a rock-solid belated reappearance over C&D in July when splitting Tylery Wonder and Bashiba; so couldn't be ignored.

A bit of a short runner and can fail for stamina, but has managed to win seven races, and got home after making all at Chester in August (5f good). Not so strong since, and now 5lb above his last winning mark.

Not won since 2015, when trained by Charlie Appleby (dual 6f winner). Cost current connections £44,000 in November 2016, but slowly working back to form as his mark eases. Beaten 1¼L by Show Palace at Ripon last month, and now 4lb better off.

Showed a clear affinity with Newcastle last winter winning three times on the Tapeta at Gosforth Park (5f) and making a steady return to action after a break with presumably another synthetics campaign mapped out. One to keep an eye on today.

A force to be reckoned with once upon a time on the Knavesmire, but those days seem many moons ago now, and after a couple of placed Thirsk efforts in August, he's lost his way again more latterly.

A dual winner earlier in the year (Wetherby 5½f good, and Catterick 6f good to firm), but much more quiet lately. Slowly away on his last couple of starts at Chester and work to do with some of these rivals based upon those efforts.

The AW is very much his preferred option, and he has won just once in 47 starts on turf, and that BetBright Trophy success over C&D came way back in May 2014. Whilst theoretically competitive from this mark, probability is stacked against him.

Forecasts

Atletico (5/1), Rasheeq (6/1), Fumbo Jumbo (7/1), Justanotherbottle (8/1), Venturous (10/1), East Street Revue (12/1), Memories Galore (16/1), Tylery Wonder (16/1), Bashiba (16/1), Monsieur Joe (16/1), Show Palace (18/1), Royal Brave (20/1), Bogart (25/1), Carlton Frankie (25/1), Lucky Beggar (25/1), Bossipop (28/1), Escalating (33/1), Normal Equilibrium (40/1), Top Boy (50/1), Rich Again (50/1)

Verdict

Another case of paying your money and taking your chance in a devilishly difficult sprint. However, at York and elsewhere, you'll have a better chance than not with Paul Midgely on your side. Both Tylery Wonder and Monsieur Joe are C&D regulars who command the utmost respect. They filled the first two places at Naas last month, and the former has already accounted for today's rivals Fumbo Jumbo and Bashiba when a decisive 4L scorer in July. Of the others, you need to be brave putting up Rasheeq for the win purposes, but there's no denying that he's a solid (non-winning) performer at this level, whilst stablemate East Street Revue is also worthy of inspection. In an open race VENTUROUS is narrowly preferred. He was beaten 1¼L by Show Palace at Ripon last month, but less testing conditions and revised weights are a leveller, and he should prove capable of further paying back the £44,000 that he cost connections in November 2016 (ex Charlie Appleby), by making the frame at the very least today.
