Has won a couple of races over hurdles since his last Flat success over 1m4f at Lingfield in August 2015. Not towards the fore since switched back to the Flat and whilst possibly better on the AW is readily opposed off top-weight.

Yet to race on synthetics, but has enjoyed a productive campaign on turf, winning twice over 1m2f in the early part of the year (Windsor and Chepstow). Not quite able to cope with higher marks since, and looks likely to need this race.

A sizeable filly who returned to action at Bath in May to shed the maiden tag (1m5f soft) and wasn't beaten all that far over this trip in the Cumberland Plate (fourth) at Carlisle in June. Of some interest in the place market.

Likes to go forward, but stamina is a concern over this slightly longer trip; untried beyond 1m2f. Appears to handle AW surfaces, and is just 1lb higher than when under 1L third to Ourmullion at Chelmsford last month.

Generally most effective over longer trips; a two time winner over 1m4f on synthetics. Becoming slightly better treated from his current mark of 78, and worth a try over shorter given his penultimate effort here in August (3½L third to Arab Moon).

A most impressive winner of a 1m2f handicap here last week when beating Exceeding Power by 4½L. Never stronger than at the finish, this extra yardage should prove no problem whatsoever, and the clear horse to beat under a 6lb penalty.

A multiple winner on the AW for various trainers, and seems particularly endeared to the Fibresand at Southwell. However, this trainer has yet to work her magic on him just yet, and he was well behind Ply here (1m2f) last week.

A consistent sort over shorter trips on mainly fast ground on turf this year, but also has no problems with a variety of AW surfaces. Probably high enough in the weights, but unlucky to lock horns with Stradivarius on his sole attempt at 1m2f.

Struck at the ninth attempt when upped in trip to 1m3½f at Windsor last month (good to soft), but has been given a 3lb rise for his narrow head success. This looks a tougher race, and whilst respected, he needs to produce more.

Falling in the weights after a barren spell; dropped 10lb since late April. Plugged on when only eighth to Ourmullion (Jufn third) latest and tough to fancy at present.

Has made the frame in all five starts on turf this year (1m to 1m2f), going under by just a head to Fire Leopard at Redcar last week (1m2f good to soft). Makes his AW debut and tries a longer trip for the first time.

Lightly raced maiden who switches to the AW for his handicap debut, but not really done enough so far to be considered as a likely contender.

Verdict

A contest which promises to be dominated by a pair of recent penalised AW winners, both of whom look well ahead of the handicapper. Pioneertown has predictably taken his time to find his feet, but that he has done as he has stepped up in trip, and he certainly wasn't visibly tiring when bolting up over an extended 1m4f at Newcastle last week. However, similar comments apply to the Roger Charlton trained Dubawi gelding PLY. He proved capable of recovering from a slow start to run out a most striking 4½L winner over 1m2f here last Monday, and looks a winner in waiting over this longer trip under the mandatory 6lb penalty prior to being re-assessed.
