Carries a penalty here for winning a moderate Brighton novices' contest by a narrow margin. Trip and ground should suit, but will need a fair bit of improvement to follow up.

Plenty to like about his attitude at Haydock on debut when he stuck on really well to score by a head as the favourite. Penalised here as a result, but should be capable of improving and give another very good account.

Came good at the fourth attempt when scoring at Lingfield over a similar trip last month. Front pair had 2L to spare there and although he carries a penalty, his solid form and the presence of Ryan Moore mark him out as a leading player again.

Well beaten at 33-1 in the Listed Chesham Stake on debut, but went much better at Newmarket (1m, good to soft) last time when beaten less than 2L. Looks capable of going close again.

Improved marginally on the debut he made here (7f, good to soft) in June at Newbury last time. Step up in trip here is a potential positive and he is not ruled out from making sufficient improvement to have a say.

150-1 and last of 12, beaten 134L on debut over 7f here in July. Ran very green that day, so should be able to improve for the experience and also this step up in trip.

50-1 and fifth of 10, beaten around 10L on debut at Newbury (7f, good to soft) in July. Did his best work towards the finish there and this extra furlong looks positive. Perhaps a bit too much to find today, but probably has a future.

Belied his 33-1 SP when runner-up on debut at Sandown (1m, soft) last month. Ran plenty green enough there, making it a very encouraging effort with hindsight. With natural improvement he looks a contender again today.

Second foal of a 6½f-7f winning half-sister to 6f/7f winner Imperial Delight, out of a full-sister to Listed-placed 1m2f winner Drama Class and half-sister to 1m2f Group 2 winner Stage Gift. Nice enough pedigree and market check suggested.

Improved for his debut but still well beaten at Chepstow last time and looks more likely to be one to consider when he has a handicap mark and can tackle nursery company.

First foal of an unraced half-sister to 1m4f Group 3 winner/Irish St Leger second Clowance. Stable among the winners, though not noted for its debut juvenile scorers.

Beaten 22L when sent off 25-1 on her Lingfield debut in April (5f, AW). Now takes a marked step up in trip for this second start, the first since joining this yard. Probably best watched.

Forecasts

White Mocha (5/2), Yaafour (4/1), Abandon Ship (9/2), Al Jellaby (5/1), Nuits St Georges (5/1), Desert Path (12/1), Nebuchadnezzar (14/1), Enzo (20/1), Pippin (25/1), Red Miracle (100/1), The Night King (100/1), Amenhotepthethird (250/1), Swiss Psalm (250/1)

Verdict

An interesting opener, where all three penalised runners are probably vulnerable, though White Mocha perhaps has more improvement in him this time than either Yaafour or Enzo. Abandon Ship and Al Jellaby are others to consider, along with debutante Pippin. However, NUITS ST GEORGES did really well on debut at Sandown and may have sufficient improvement in him to win this time.
  1. Nuits St Georges
  2. White Mocha
  3. Yaafour
