33/1 winner over 6f at Doncaster in July and since run a decent race back there over 7f when second of 14. Sets standard on form but no easy task conceding weight all round.
Close up in fifth of 12 in 7f Newbury maiden last time having gone off 100/1, that was fair improvement on debut showing and entitled to claims here on the strength of it.
Mayson colt makes debut here, yard not noted for their 2yo winners and probably best watched at this stage.
Form shown so far in two runs leaves plenty to work, latest coming at Lingfield (7f, good to soft) last month when beaten almost 20L after going off 80/1. Looks to be stable second string on form.
Colt out of Mount Nelson, cost connections €20,000 as a yearling, makes debut here for top yard with 18% strike rate (15-85) recently and commands attention.
Daughter of Rip Van Winkle who cost 27,000 gns as a yearling, she has been well held both runs so far, at Leicester (6f, good) and Salisbury (7f, good) and needs to improve.
Went close on debut over 6f at Brighton in May despite racing keenly in the early stages, she couldn't replicate that effort back there in June and has been off the track since. Clearly has some ability.
Much-improved from debut when fourth over this trip at Nottingham early this month on heavy ground. Has to show liking for the likely better ground but could have something to offer.
Forecasts
Voice of The North (9/4), Make Good (5/2), Deadly Accurate (9/2), Powerful Society (9/2), Hateya (14/1), King Athelstan (14/1), Chickpea (25/1), The Naughty Step (33/1)
Make Good sets the standard, but it isn't a high bar to aim at, and conceding weight all around might prove tricky for the surprise Doncaster winner. Deadly Accurate, also outrunning his price last time, and Hateya, who must repeat her debut effort at Brighton rather than the subsequent follow-up, are others worth a mention but this could prove an ideal starting place for VOICE OF THE NORTH. Mark Johnston's team are in super form lately and with a Derby entry for next summer under his arm, he may prove up to this challenge.
- Voice of The North
- Make Good
- Hateya
