Dark Angel colt who cost €150,000 as a yearling. Plenty of promise on debut at Salisbury before fading late on. Gave the impression he will come on for that effort and this trainer and jockey have a near 30% strike-rate when combining.

Poet's Voice gelding, half-brother to four winners including useful middle distance performer Belgrade as well as 7f winners French Blue and Blue Lyric. Ran well in soft ground on debut over this trip at Sandown when still green in the early stages. Sure to come on for that effort and yard's juveniles warrant plenty of respect this year and they had a two-year-old winner at Nottingham earlier in the week. Should go well.

Lethal Force colt who cost 28,000 gns as a yearling. Well beaten in a Salisbury maiden behind Ateem and will struggle to turn around the form with that rival in what looks like a hotter race.

Havana Gold colt, dam a winner over this trip as a two-year-old. Yard's first juvenile runner of the season and not known for their success with newcomers. Pedigree suggests he may want faster ground than this and others preferred.
Camelot colt, related to Listed winners Snoqualmie Girl, Snoqualmie Boy and dam a full-sister to two-year-old Group 1 winner Seattle Rhyme. Smart effort on debut at Ascot and the form of that contest working out well with the winner landing a Listed contest at Deauville earlier in the week. Sure to appreciate the extra furlong here and booking of De Sousa looks a big positive.

Mizzen Mast colt, half-brother to US dirt winner Here Sir and dam a useful sort over this kind of trip and a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Filimbi. Makes plenty of appeal on pedigree and distance looks about right for debut but there's a suspicion he'll want faster ground to be seen to his best.

Footstepsinthesand colt, cost 30,000 gns as a yearling. Half-brother to three winners and dam was a winner over a mile. Very green on debut but yard's juveniles worthy of plenty of respect and they often come on markedly for their debut. Been given time to recover and ought to do better here.

Thewayyouare colt, cost €1,000 as a foal, €2,800 as a yearling and 45,000 gns as a two-year-old. Well beaten on debut when very green and needs to have learnt plenty in a relatively short space of time if he's to take any sort of hand in this contest.

Shamardal colt, half-brother to Tawdeea and Alward. Dam a half-sister to Group 2 winner Maraahel amongst two other smart performers. Eye-catching pedigree but bred for further than this.
Delegator colt, half-brother to Imperial Aviator and dam a moderate performer over both hurdles and on the Flat. Far too green on debut and bred for plenty further than this.

Camelot filly, cost 50,000 gns as a yearling. Half-sister to three useful winners at around this trip and dam a half-sister to Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Bachelor Duke. Could be better on faster ground than what she will get here. Yard do well with their juveniles and have hit form in recent weeks. Interesting enough runner.

Forecasts

Merlin Magic (15/8), Purser (2/1), Ateem (13/2), Blue Laureate (8/1), Staunch (12/1), Robinson Crusoe (14/1), Tansheet (16/1), Arthenia (33/1), Island Sound (40/1), Surrey Blaze (66/1), Deadly Accurate (100/1), Universal Command (100/1), Foxangel (125/1)

Verdict

Purser must be of interest with his pedigree and the booking of Ryan Moore could be significant while Staunch is well related and represents a yard in excellent form. However, the narrow vote goes to MERLIN MAGIC who has a racecourse experience to call upon and the form of that contest has been franked since.
  1. Merlin Magic
  2. Purser
  3. Staunch
