Didn't need to improve to win his latest start easily enough and break his maiden tag. Nothing in the form book to suggest he's capable of taking a race of this nature and best efforts have come over 5f.

Has won some nice races in France recently but he was all out in his most recent effort at Maisons-Laffitte and likely to need plenty more to figure in this.

Very inconsistent gelding but put up a career best over this trip at Newcastle last time. Yard gone a little quiet over the last couple of weeks though and he would need to improve plenty to get involved for win purposes.

Useful handicapper on his day but out of his depth in this and first-time blinkers unlikely to make any difference. Has the widest draw to deal with also.

Won a Listed contest here last time out and completed his hat-trick. Looks like a versatile type and drop back in trip should cause no issues so should go well for a trainer with an excellent record at this course (26.97%).

Sutter County41
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-5| J: J Fanning| T: C & M Johnston| OR:  103
4/1
Beaten by Second Thought on two of his last four starts and struggles to get his head in front generally with recent form figures of 232212. Likely to make a bold bid from the front but vulnerable to anything improving and he raced a little keenly last time.

Useful as a two-year-old; contested the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot and finished runner-up in a Listed contest at Doncaster. Has some work to do to turn a piece of form around with Second Thought but did manage to beat Sutter County when that rival was odds on. Trainer's runners often do well at this time of year and this colt should be thereabouts.

Prevailed in a relatively weak Dundalk contest last time that didn't take much winning and likely to struggle back in deeper waters. Can miss the break but jockey booking is a positive and he has good record when teaming up with this trainer.

9/1
6f Redcar Listed Two-Year-Old Trophy winner as a juvenile and made a promising start to this AW season at Newcastle when winning a 6f contest. Disappointed over that same C&D last time but capable of bouncing back and he's dangerous if he gets an easy lead on the front end.

Dubai One15

9/2
Sole filly in the line-up who has been going very well this AW season. No doubt capable of more and her trainer is in flying form in recent weeks, operating at a strike-rate above 50%. Will likely improve throughout the season on what she does today but should remain competitive stepped up in class.

Forecasts

Second Thought (11/8), Sutter County (4/1), Dubai One (9/2), Tomily (15/2), Wick Powell (9/1), Visionary (16/1), Carlton Choice (20/1), Letmestopyouthere (33/1), Arzaak (66/1), Marquee Club (66/1)

Verdict

SECOND THOUGHT doesn't look like he's finished improving just yet and he has the beating of Sutter County and Tomily on previous form. The latter of that pair represents a yard who are typically flying at this time of year while Sutter County's rivals wouldn't want to see him with too much rope on the front end. Dubai One looks like a classy filly already and young fillies can improve markedly from run-to-run, particularly at this time of year, so she looks capable of going well for a trainer that couldn't be in better form, completing the shortlist.
  1. Second Thought
  2. Dubai One
  3. Tomily
