9lb lower than when winning at Newmarket in May but mostly well out of sorts since then. However, does go well both in spring and when fresh so this could be a decent opportunity.
Sole success came in a Beverley handicap over an extended 1m in July (soft) from 2lb lower. However, wasn't far away from a mark of 81 at Kempton in August and has claims on that basis. Changed yards since and latest handler among the winners of late. Interesting.
Another to have won over the extended 1m at Beverley last season (good) in a maiden and also went well from 2lb lower than today at Chepstow. Changed yards since and has first start for this trainer today. Market check advised.
Off form in the latter part of last season, having threatened to win a couple of times earlier in the campaign. Hasn't grabbed a gold since June 2013. However, was 19lb higher as recently as June last year and given that he has previously completed a hat-trick, it wouldn't be the biggest shock to see the ball begin to roll again.
Another former hat-trick merchant who did so last year at trips around 1m2f. 6lb lower today than when just a 1L second at Chelmsford in June, though best recent efforts on All Weather and he still looks one to take on.
Made the frame on all four starts for Roger Charlton at 1m2f and 1m4f in 2015, but been in the grip of the handicapper in five starts for current yard. That is unlikely to continue forever and a 3lb drop will help, so keep an eye on the market.
Finished last season by recording back-to-back wins at Musselburgh and Beverley over similar trips. Raised 3lb for narrow success in the second of those, though front pair were clear and entitled to plenty of respect on his return.
Scored three times at Wolverhampton in early 2016 and ran creditably on a number of occasions after that without adding to his win column. Can go well fresh and should be competitive from this mark.
1-14 on the Flat, that win being in a Redcar maiden on debut three years ago. Competitive from this sort of mark though and would have to have each-way claims if fit after a four month break.
Won at Newcastle in February (1m) from 6lb lower but well held next time. A sound surface suits and he went close to winning here in two of his three runs at the track, so another who could pick up some prize money.
4lb higher than when scoring at Newcastle in January (1m). Comfortably held since and now first-time headgear applied in the quest for improvement. Needs to work some magic for him to win.
Same mark today as when recording his only success, in a 6f Catterick handicap last July. Tried a few times over 1m and beyond at the back end of last season and ran well on one occasion from 1lb higher. Stable been having winners and with blinkers on first time here this may well be a good day to catch him.
His Redcar run last May was a promising effort, but Charlie Hills could not squeeze a win out of him and he tries pastures new now. Stable has had a couple of recent winners, but this one has needed a run when fresh previously and probably best watched today.
Grand old servant with 11 wins to his name, the most recent being from 4lb lower at Newcastle in March. Went well in defeat from today's pitch last time and has two C&D wins to his name so not ruled out.
Forecasts
Off Art (5/2), Thaqaffa (4/1), Buckland Beau (6/1), Zeshov (9/1), Cornborough (12/1), Kiwi Bay (16/1), Jabbaar (16/1), Ataman (16/1), Arithmetic (16/1), Pickett's Charge (20/1), First Wheat (20/1), Chiswick Bey (25/1), Arrowzone (33/1), Rockwood (40/1)
Arrowzone looks very interesting here and any support may well prove to be significant, but FIRST WHEAT is saddled by a trainer who is among the winners and may have this one ready to win first time back in headgear. Kiwi Bay goes well here and age has proved no barrier to recent success, while Chiswick Bay, Off Art and Thaqaffa are others on a far from exhaustive list of runners with claims.
- First Wheat
- Arrowzone
- Off Art
