Very difficult to praise his debut run as he basically ran up to the expectations of his 80/1 starting price. Much more required already.

Champ25
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-4| J: B J Geraghty| T: N J Henderson
8/15
Out of a half-sister to the mighty Best Mate and represents one of the most respected combination of connections in jumping circles; which makes him very hard to ignore in this company.
Wasn't given too hard a time once his chance had gone on his debut at Doncaster last November. Sure to appreciate further in time, but very much respected here and certainly worth noting in the betting.

10/1
His yard is going great guns at present and, given that his dam won at this level, this fellow also adds spice to the pot. Another to keep a keen eye on in the market.
5
Horse silk
10/1
Well supported on debut at Chepstow last month, so it'll be interesting to see if he is backed as if compensation awaits this time around. However, it is also worth bearing in mind that he was ridden along from quite some way out on his introduction and may simply need a little more time.
Related to winners on the Flat and is at least a nice-bred individual. His trainer isn't yet noted for this type of event so a cautious approach is recommended just for now.

Grey Warbler24
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-11| J: C Gethings(5)| T: S Edmunds
25/1
Represents a canny stable that has certainly ruffled a few feathers in bumpers over the years; interesting but only if significantly supported before the off.
8
Horse silk
25/1
Has a similar profile to the yard's representative in Division One of this race; bred to appreciate a test of stamina and, being out of a Montjeu mare, he ought to handle the ground. Gets the weight allowance as a four-year-old, so is another for future reference whatever happens.

Oro Rebelde66
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-7| J: Conor Shoemark| T: G Hanmer
150/1
Unfancied on debut and seemingly ran up to expectations. Much more required already and probably best left alone until he shows some sparkle.
10
Horse silk
66/1
Makes limited appeal on breeding and, given the stable's poor strike-rate in bumpers, this fellow isn't too hard to leave out of the predications for a return on an investment.

Forecasts

Champ (8/15), Midnight Moss (9/4), Parwich Lees (10/1), Snow Castle (10/1), Grey Warbler (25/1), Caporali (25/1), Soffel (33/1), Bury The Evidence (66/1), Black Jack Jaxon (100/1), Oro Rebelde (150/1)

Verdict

As ever, there has to be an element of guesswork when siding with a debutante, but CHAMP has plenty going for him in terms of the way he can be expected to have been prepared for his racecourse bow. The mount of Barry Geraghty is out of a half-sister to the legendary Best Mate, so is unlikely to slip under the radar as far as the odds are concerned. However, he ticks too many boxes to be ignored and is selected in preference to Parwich Lees, who represents and in-form emerging yard, and Midnight Moss, who should know more about what is required of him this time around. Grey Warbler is another to bear in mind for a place in the frame if the market indicates she is ready to deliver at the first time of asking. 1. Champ 2. Parwich Lees 3. Midnight Moss
