Why is Royal Ascot important?

Royal Ascot is the major summer meeting in the British Flat season, featuring five days of some of the most prestigious events in the sport's calendar.

It is typically also renowned for its significant status in the fashion industry and its overall pageantry, given it is attended by Her Majesty the Queen who has enjoyed success at the meeting as an owner. It is often referred to as the highlight of the British summer social scene.

Each of the five days of Royal Ascot traditionally begins with the Royal Procession at 2.00pm, when the Queen - who this year celebrates her Platinum Jubilee - and other members of the royal family arrive down the straight mile in the Royal Landaus, accompanied by the playing of the National Anthem and the raising of the Royal Standard. This was started in 1825 by King George IV.

Royal Ascot odds

Royal Ascot betting odds are available through all major online bookmakers including Sky Bet, Paddy Power and Betfair, who price up the majority of the races well in advance.

Bookmakers also offer Best Odds Guaranteed meaning if the Starting Price (SP) is greater than the odds you take at the time, you get paid at the bigger price.

The Gold Cup at Royal Ascot - won in 2021 by Subjectivist - is one of the most gambled-on races of the week and John Gosden's star Stradivarius, winner of the race in 2018, 2019 and 2020, is set to be back for another crack as he bids to match the four wins achieved by the Aidan O'Brien-trained Yeats in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Bookmakers can become extra-generous around the time of Royal Ascot and often launch favourable sign-up offers and give away free bets to new and existing customers.

Free bets for Royal Ascot vary per bookmakers but are generally in plentiful supply in the run-up to the big week, while you will have plenty of options when it comes to taking advantage of all the enhanced prices, money back specials and extra place offers.

Sky Bet offer cash back offers on the first races at all major meetings and also offer special promotions if signing up via the Sky Bet Club.

Eligibility restrictions apply so always thoroughly read the terms and conditions around each free bet offer.
