Looked a good prospect when scoring on debut at Doncaster (1m) in September before an improved fifth in Group 3 Autumn Stakes next time. After 7 months off, matched that form when third in 4-runner conditions event here 3 weeks ago and that might not prove his limit. Handicap debut.

Hadn't been pulling up any trees in Meydan but found a test of speed at this trip suiting back on these shores when landing 8-runner listed contest at Lingfield (7f) in February. This rates a different test now handicapping on forecast ground slower than good.

Pitched in deep after winning a Salisbury maiden on debut last summer but back on track when fourth in conditions event at Newbury (1m) in September. Finished well held in Esher Cup on reappearance at Sandown (1m) 4 weeks ago and others make greater appeal.

Oasis Dream colt who showed progressive form as a 2-y-o, confirming promise from maidens when scoring on nursery debut at Doncaster (7f) in September. Ran at least as well pitched up in class when third in Horris Hill on final outing and he resumes with his excellent stable hitting form.

Yarmouth maiden winner in August who ran to a useful level when runner-up over this trip at Meydan in January. Not in same form on first crack at 6f a month later but gelded/had breathing operation ahead of this handicap debut and no surprise to see him quickly back on track.

Lingfield maiden winner (7f) in November who found residual inexperience catching him out when fourth in listed company there in February. Didn't seem at home on the track when last of 5 at Newmarket latest and not one to be giving up on now handicapping. Has been gelded.

Progressive form in defeat as a juvenile and made no mistake in 7f Kempton novice on reappearance in March. Seemingly not 100% when well held last of 7 in listed company at Newcastle (1m) and no surprise to see him get back on track following a break. Makes handicap debut.

Didn't kick on from a highly promising start as a 2-y-o but back on track after 7 months off/in cheekpieces (also gelded) when third in handicap at Pontefract (6f) 32 days ago. That is something to build on back up at 7f with conditions in his favour.

7f novice winner at 2 yrs who resumed with a career best second on handicap debut at Wetherby (7f) in April. Found early keenness compromising his finishing effort when sixth behind Startled at York (7f) latest and type to win handicaps for his very good stable this season.

A fairly useful 5f winner for Richard Hughes at 2 yrs. Changed hands for 160,000 gns and not disgraced on return when seventh of 14 in 7f Newbury handicap 5 weeks ago, not clear run under 2f out. In the mix with that run under his belt.

Successful on first of his 2 starts at 2 yrs and quickly regained progressive thread this spring, building on his Kempton novice second when scoring on handicap debut at Lingfield (6f) 25 days ago, getting first run on re-opposing Bone Marra. Fancied to be equally as effective at 7f.

Dark Angel colt who outclassed his rivals to make it 2 wins from first 3 starts at Beverley (5f) in September. Definite encouragement to glean from his return/handicap debut fifth at Newmarket (6f) 37 days ago, despite being left poorly placed. Undoubtedly more to come.

Ended 2025 on the up and has continued in the same vein this season, following up last month's Newmarket victory despite meeting with trouble at York's Dante Meeting last week. Still unexposed at 7f and has to be of serious interest in hat-trick bid.

Started and ended 2-y-o campaign with wins at Wolverhampton. Left the impression he'd have gone close to maintaining his 100% all-weather record with a clear run when second on last month's Lingfield reappearance. That looks solid form but this is a deeper assignment.

Stood out on his form for Adrian McGuinness in Ireland and didn't need to improve to win 10-runner maiden at Newcastle in November. Encouraging he ran well in a much deeper race when fourth on return/handicap debut at Ascot (7f) 15 days ago but step up to 1m may suit him ideally.

Has proven a different proposition this year, registering her fourth success since January at Southwell (7f) in April. Ran a cracker making turf debut when running-on third at Chester (7.6f) 16 days ago. Each-way claims from a handy draw, eased a little in trip.

Forecasts

Startled (9/2), Catullus (7/1), Reciprocated (8/1), Ironwill (8/1), Wechaad (8/1), Shaman Champion (14/1), Strength of Spirit (14/1), Bone Marra (14/1), Hilitany (14/1), Rogue Messiah (14/1), Hasbro Market (14/1), New Monarch (16/1), Siren Suit (16/1), Cool Molly (16/1), Pathein (20/1), Richie's Rocket (20/1), Goodwood Galaxy (33/1), Aqua Bear (50/1)

Verdict

STARTLED picked up with some purpose having met with trouble in running when scoring again at York last week and he looks a major player once more from a 7 lb higher mark with conditions in his favour. This is understandably competitive though, with Godolphin representative Catullus, low-mileage Ironwill and Bone Marra others to consider. Strength of Spirit also makes a good deal of each-way appeal at longer odds.
