Ended lengthy losing run when making all in Renaissance Stakes at the Curragh (6f) in September. Well held on final 2 starts, however, and others are more convincing.

Useful horse who acquitted himself well in good company last season, including when sixth in July Cup at Newmarket when last seen in the summer. Scored first time up in 2024 so must be taken seriously here.

Smart gelding who has registered 6 wins from 23 starts and shaped as if as good as ever when second in listed race at Lingfield in January of last year. Entitled to be in the mix on the pick of his efforts but has a 13-month absence to overcome.

Five-time winner who looked as good as ever when runner-up in back-to-back races at the Curragh over this trip last summer. Not in the same form on final 2 starts but has joined new yard since and is worth a second look in the market.

Forecasts

Montassib (11/4), Spycatcher (10/3), Jasour (6/1), Annaf (9/1), James's Delight (11/1), Aramram (12/1), My Mate Alfie (14/1), Mitbaahy (14/1), Myal (18/1), Caburn (25/1), Art Power (25/1), Super Soldier (28/1)

Verdict

Last year's winner SPYCATCHER ended his 2025 campaign firmly on the up and makes plenty of appeal in his bid for a repeat victory. Successful in this contest back in 2024, Montassib proved somewhat disappointing last term but has likely been aimed at this and must be taken seriously, whilst market support for My Mate Alfie on debut for David O'Meara could prove significant.
