Below both starts this season, but wasn't seen to best effect at Goodwood (5f, good) last time and he was a winner off this mark over C&D on his sole previous visit here last July. The booking of William Buick is another positive factor.

Successful over 7f here and on the Rowley Mile in 2023, and put his best foot forward when landing a Class 2 Chelmsford handicap (also at 7f) last summer. However, he has failed to shine in 3 starts dropped to this trip for new connections since returning to action in March.

Hit the target back from a break at Chelmsford in May and did nothing wrong when runner-up on the other course here (6f, good to firm) later that month. Probably best to excuse his latest run (poorly drawn), but one or two of these may be better treated all the same.

Goes well here, adding to 2023 C&D success when striking back at this course off a 4 lb lower mark last summer (has also gone close at this course twice in the past). Back on track when just touched off at Yarmouth (6f, good to soft) last time and he's a key player with blinkers refitted.

Landed the odds narrowly on his introduction at Newcastle (6f) in January and found just one too good on each of his next 2 starts. However, subsequently gelded and underperformed dropped to 5f when returning from a break on recent turf debut at Windsor.

Back-to-back C&D winner last August, just getting the better of an argument with the re-opposing Dashing Dick on the first occasion. Edging back down the weights and shaped as though his turn may again be near when fourth of 9 over 5f on the Rowley Mile last month.

Haydock novice winner at 2 yrs and ended that campaign by finishing second in a valuable sales race at the Curragh. Reappearance effort at Ascot was low-key, but stepped up on that when an eye-catching fourth of 10 at Chester (6f, soft) and she's a live each-way candidate.

Windsor maiden winner on debut last summer and best effort since when third in a big-field handicap at Ascot on return in May. Found things happening too quickly dropped to 5f at Goodwood next time and claims back up to 6f on this more conventional course.

Cost a bit and much improved from debut when winning 6f Pontefract novice (good to firm) in September. Wasn't disgraced when third at York on final 2-y-o start (also final run for William Haggas), but more will be needed if he's to make a winning start for new connections.

Pulled clear of the rest when sharing the spoils with Blue Rc (winner again since) on return in a 6f maiden at Chelmsford. However, his limitations have seemingly been exposed since and while the booking of Ryan Moore is a plus, others make more appeal all the same. Cheekpieces applied.

Turned over when favourite for his reappearance/handicap bow at Yarmouth, but much more like it at both Redcar and Lingfield since, narrowly failing to reel in a better-positioned rival on each occasion. This step up to 6f looks a good move (raced exclusively over 5f to date) and he's a key player.

Forecasts

I Maximus (7/2), Mollie Foster (9/2), Rocking Ends (11/2), Spring Bloom (6/1), Another Abbot (9/1), Miraculous (9/1), Priapos (9/1), Fiscal Policy (12/1), Dashing Dick (12/1), Ararat (14/1), Apache Green (66/1)

Verdict

A first taste of success beckons for ANOTHER ABBOT, who arrives here on the back of a couple of close-calls and this step up to 6f will be right up his street. Spring Bloom looks booked for another bold show at this course and he is second choice, while Priapos, who like Spring Bloom found 5f too sharp last time, is also shortlisted. Dashing Dick and Rocking Ends are others to consider in a competitive handicap.
