Three-time juvenile hurdle winner last season. Has run with credit in defeat in handicaps this season and his leading stable is in good form ahead of this first outing for nearly 2 months so there are reasons to be hopeful.

Maiden winner for Anthony Charlton last winter and placed in all 3 handicap starts for Harry Derham this season. Bumped into an improver at Newbury latest and should remain competitive from an unchanged mark. Has first-time cheekpieces added to regular tongue tie.

Completed a maiden/novice hurdle hat-trick last year. Shaped well when travelling well long way in 19f Ascot handicap on penultimate start but dropped out quickly in the Morebattle at Kelso since. Bounce back needed.

Second handicap start when registering an improved effort to win a 12-runner race over 17.5f at Musselburgh (good) 3 weeks ago. Hit with a 9 lb rise but it was a competitive race and an unexposed profile provides the hope for better.

Fairly useful Flat performer who won novice and handicap hurdles around the turn of the year. His run of good hurdle form came to a halt when a well-held fourth at Kelso in February but he's run respectably on AW Flat since.

Dual winner in claimers over hurdles in France and has performed with credit in some strong juvenile hurdles since coming to Britain, making an encouraging start for new trainer Donald McCain when seventh of 22 in Fred Winter at Cheltenham, unable to sustain a striking move into contention.

Scored 4 times on the Flat in 2024 but unable to make a significant impact in handicap hurdles this winter. Hopes are pinned on a 3-month break having had a revitalising effect.

Made a fine start over fences for his new yard when landing a pair of Bangor handicaps last spring. Jumping has proved a major issue over the larger obstacles since but potentially on a good mark back hurdling.

Advanced his form on the back of wind surgery when ready winner over C&D in March. Stamina probably stretched when fourth of 16 over 21f at Kelso since and treated as if still in form. His regular hood is left off here.

Fairly useful stayer on Flat but hasn't won since his 3-y-o days. Has been running with credit in handicap hurdles this winter but he'll need things to drop perfectly to get his head in front.

Fairly useful on Flat and quickly reached a similar level over hurdles, making it 2-4 in this sphere when landing 17.5f Musselburgh handicap 3 weeks ago. An unexposed profile provides the hope for better again.

Did quite well over hurdles for Milton Harris in 2023, winning a maiden and placing in 3 handicaps. Campaigned solely on the Flat since, getting back to winning ways on AW in January but below par since. Remains to be seen whether a return to hurdles sparks a revival.

Forecasts

Kingston James (4/1), Wilful (9/2), Lario (9/2), Liari (6/1), Static (15/2), Ballyfort (10/1), Inappropriate (11/1), Maghlaak (12/1), Ravenscraig Castle (12/1), Lipa K (25/1), Sisterandbrother (50/1), Bringbackmemories (66/1)

Verdict

STATIC shaped well in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham and is given a chance to build on that promise now taking on largely older rivals. The two at the top of the weights Liari and Lario arrive in form for powerful Southern yards and should get involved, while an unexposed profile gives recent Musselburgh scorer Inappropriate the scope for better again.
