Showed only a bit more than on his hurdling debut when fifth of 7 in juvenile (66/1) at Market Rasen (16.6f, heavy) 39 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Yet to get it together in handicaps so others make more appeal.

Again showed little after 4 months off when twelfth of 14 in handicap (125/1) at Kempton (11f) in October. Had a wind op but still very hard to make a case for.

125/1, wasn't given a hard time on qualifying run when seventh of 11 in maiden at Kempton (12f) back in September. Interesting to see what the market says on handicap debut.

9/4, found a bit of improvement and finally gained just reward for a string of consistent efforts when winning 10-runner handicap at this course (8f, AW) 33 days ago. Back up in trip. Enters calculations.

Was well backed and can easily have a line put through his fifth of 6 in handicap at Chelmsford City (10f, 9/4) on Saturday, badly hampered 1f out. Remains of interest from this sort of mark.

Forecasts

Masqool (5/2), Tribal Wisdom (10/3), Chagall (11/2), Deed Pole (7/1), Pink Lily (15/2), Star Of Sussex (11/1), Monkmoor Pip (16/1), Nasim (18/1), Truth Will Out (28/1), Come On John (33/1), Malacanne (80/1), Manila Mist (150/1)

Verdict

A few in with chances but it's hard to ignore the claims of CHAGALL, who came from quite far back to get up late over 1½m here on New Year's Eve and back down in trip, he can bring up the hat-trick for Jack Jones who enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2023. Deed Pole finally gained just reward for a string of consistent efforts at this track last month, so he can give the selection most to think about, ahead of Masqool and handicap-debutant Truth Will Out.
