Returned to form off this reduced mark when third in a 17-runner Ascot handicap (7f, good to soft) 3 weeks ago. Will be a danger to all if coping with the forecast testing conditions.

Hit the crossbar in 7f handicaps at Haydock and Doncaster in July. Well below par the last twice, but he was a winner under similar conditions as a 2-y-o and is certainly not one to write off.

Matched pick of his form in Meydan when landing small-field Bath novice (1m) last September. However, no show on belated York reappearance and conditions here are a worry. Tongue strap applied.

Improved switched to handicaps the last twice, scoring at Kempton and Wolverhampton (both at 7f) in the manner of a progressive type. Gone up 8 lb for latest success, but he may have more to offer.

Very capable performer when on-song, but majority of efforts for new yard this season have lacked spark and has done most of his racing on faster ground (unraced on heavy).

Has failed to make a meaningful impact in half-a-dozen appearances this year, but the handicapper has cut him some slack and it's worth remembering that he was a listed winner on heavy going at 2 yrs.

Winner of this race in 2019 and last year (both on heavy going) and made it 3-3 on heavy at Haydock in May. Flying too high in listed company back from a break at Ascot and should be spot-on for this.

Wasn't beaten far when fourth in the Dewhurst last year and also finished fourth in the Craven Stakes back at Newmarket in May. However, well held all 3 runs for new yard and now tried in cheekpieces.

Dual 7f winner at Newmarket in summer and he took his form up a notch when second in 7f handicap there in July. Below par back from a break at Ascot, though, and he's unproven on ground this slow.

Well-bred colt confirmed debut promise when scoring at Wolverhampton last month. Followed up in good style at Catterick (7f, good to firm) and further progress likely now handicapping.

Irish raider who has proved consistent this season, placed all 3 starts subsequent to landing a 23-runner handicap at the Curragh in May. Still, this career-high mark asks a question.

Successful on a slow surface at Goodwood in May and did little wrong when third over this C&D (good) last time. Still, he looks pretty exposed overall and is likely to find a few too good.

Verdict

Progressive 3-y-os MOTORIOUS and Old Flame both make plenty of appeal. In all probability, the latter is the one with the greatest long-term potential, but conditions here will be vastly different to anything that he has previously encountered and preference is for the hat-trick seeking Motorious. Molls Memory is bidding for a third consecutive victory in this race and she is another key player.
