Useful at 2 yrs for Richard Hannon and struck at second attempt for Jane Chapple-Hyam on the AW in December. Tongue strap enlisted on debut for another new yard and looks vulnerable back on turf.

Consistent sprinter who bagged handicaps over C&D and at Ayr during a productive 2020 campaign. Back on the scoresheet at Doncaster (6f, soft) last month and likely to give another good account.

Enhanced healthy strike-rate on turf when seeing off 5 rivals with a bit left up his sleeve at Musselburgh (5f, good to firm) last weekend. Up just 2 lb, but this is a far more competitive race.

Debut winner in 2019 and good third in 6f AW handicap on sole run last year. Wasn't knocked about on return/debut for new yard at Ripon and still has low mileage, but improvement is certainly needed.

Successful at Ripon on second start for this yard last June and has largely acquitted himself well since, going close back at the aforementioned course (6f, good) 10 days ago. Needs considering.

Rather frustrating on the whole, but snapped a long losing run in good style at Hamilton (6f, firm) on Wednesday and this C&D winner holds obvious claims with just a 4 lb penalty to carry.

Raised his game with a quickfire double in fast-ground 5f handicaps in April/May. However, subsequent efforts strongly suggest that the handicapper is now very much in charge.

In fine form at Newcastle this year, back-to-back 6f winner there in March and went down narrowly in hat-trick last time. Good third on latest turf start in 2020, but that was off a 9 lb lower mark.

Clearly on good terms with himself, landing fast-ground 6f handicaps at Hamilton and Pontefract since the start of the month. However, more on his plate here under a penalty.

Won twice from half-a-dozen starts at 2 yrs and improved when striking in a 5f Thirsk handicap early last month. Not disgraced at Ayr subsequently and he's not without each-way hope.

Dual winner in 2020 and added to her tally when getting on top close home at Thirsk (6f, good to firm) in April. Put in another good shift off this mark next time, but clear career best needed here.

Posted one of his better efforts on turf when a close third at Thirsk (6f, good to firm) last month, but not at his best next 2 starts and he's clearly more of a force on the AW.

Clearly matured during the winter judged on his decisive reappearance success at Nottingham (6f, soft). 6 lb rise fair enough and possibilities if able to back that up on this faster surface.

Verdict

ABATE is of strong interest returned to this course, having landed a C&D handicap off this mark on his sole previous visit last summer. Indeed, everything looks in place for a very bold show from this 5-y-o and he is an appealing alternative to George Bowen, who did the job well at Hamilton on Wednesday and is feared greatly under a penalty. I Am A Dreamer and Roundhay Park are others to consider.

  1. ABATE
  2. GEORGE BOWEN (IRE)
  3. I AM A DREAMER
