11/2

C&D winner. Latest win at Catterick in April. Respectable fourth of 8 in handicap (6/1) at Thirsk (7f, heavy) 14 days ago, faring best of those held up. Place possibilities.

Form: 94-6104

(5)

Byron's Choice²⁸

Age: 6| Weight: 10-0| J: J P Sullivan| T: M Dods| OR: 90| D

7/1

Eleventh of 15 in handicap (100/1) at Thirsk (8f, good) 28 days ago. Remains 7 lb above last winning mark and others make more appeal.

Form: 54310-0

(7)

Waarif¹³

Age: 8| Weight: 9-11| J: D Nolan| T: D O'Meara| OR: 87

22/1

Fifth of 7 in handicap (18/1) at Ripon (9.8f, heavy) 13 days ago. Down in trip and he needs to bounce back in a major way.

Form: 555/905

(2)

Broken Spear^p¹⁴

Age: 5| Weight: 9-11| J: Kieran Schofield⁽⁵⁾| T: T Coyle & K Wood| OR: 87| D

14/1

Latest win at Chester in May. 6/1, fifth of 8 in handicap at Thirsk (7f, heavy) 14 days ago. Remains on a feasible mark and shouldn't be far away if able to bounce back.

Form: 402-915

(4)

Herculean^h1⁹⁴

Age: 6| Weight: 9-8| J: Cam Hardie| T: D Shaw| OR: 84| D

80/1

Last of 11 in handicap (10/1) at Kempton (8f), reportedly bled. Off 94 days ahead of this debut for new yard and sports a first-time hood.

Form: 8/38-780

(9)

Gallipoli^v¹⁸

Age: 8| Weight: 9-7| J: Sean Davis| T: R A Fahey| OR: 83| D

33/1

12/1, creditable second of 8 in handicap at Ayr (7.2f, good) 18 days ago. Would be a danger to all off the same mark, but for the forecast conditions (best form on good/good to firm).

Form: 629-942

(12)

Late Arrival¹⁵

Age: 4| Weight: 9-3| J: Joanna Mason⁽³⁾| T: M & D Easterby| OR: 79| D

33/1

First run since leaving Simon & Ed Crisford when seventeenth of 18 in handicap (80/1) at York (7f, good) 15 days ago, folding tamely. Best to look elsewhere.

Form: 32510-0

(1)

Duesenberg³⁵

Age: 4| Weight: 9-3| J: P Mathers| T: R A Fahey| OR: 79| D

17/2

Latest win at Newcastle in March. 22/1, twelfth of 13 in handicap at Haydock (7.2f, good to firm) 35 days ago, worst of draw. Looks vulnerable.

Form: 600-210

(11)

Muntadab¹⁵

Age: 9| Weight: 9-2| J: S M Levey| T: R Fell & S Murray| OR: 78| D

14/1

Twelve runs since last win in 2020. Below form ninth of 18 in handicap (12/1) at York (7f, good) 15 days ago. May again find one or two too good.

Form: 87-7529

(6)

Give It Some Teddy¹²

Age: 7| Weight: 9-1| J: D Fentiman| T: T D Easterby| OR: 77

9/1

Good fourth of 14 in handicap (25/1) at Carlisle (7.8f, heavy) 12 days ago. That represented a step back in the right direction and he has to enter calculations off the same mark.

Form: 040-884

(10)

Cassy O^b¹⁵

Age: 4| Weight: 9-1| J: Lewis Edmunds| T: T D Easterby| OR: 77| D

9/1

18/1, below form tenth of 18 in handicap at York (7f, good) 15 days ago. Good third at Wetherby on penultimate start, form which makes him of interest, but conditions are a worry.

Form: 118-630

(3)

Sibaaq⁴⁵

Age: 3| Weight: 8-7| J: B A Curtis| T: C & M Johnston| OR: 80| CD

2/1

Career best when winning 6-runner C&D handicap (good to firm, 7/4) 45 days ago, slowly away. 4 lb rise fair, but whether he'll reproduce that form on this slower surface remains to be seen.

Form: 43123-1

Forecasts

Sibaaq (2/1), Queen's Sargent (11/2), Byron's Choice (7/1), Duesenberg (17/2), Cassy O (9/1), Give It Some Teddy (9/1), Muntadab (14/1), Broken Spear (14/1), Waarif (22/1), Gallipoli (33/1), Late Arrival (33/1), Herculean (80/1)

The vote goes to GIVE IT SOME TEDDY, who appears to be finding his feet for this yard again judged on his effort at Carlisle where he was a close fourth. He is proven under testing conditions and remains on an attractive mark. Conversely, conditions are a worry for the otherwise appealing Sibaaq, while Gallipoli would also prefer a faster surface. As such, Broken Spear rates the main danger.
