Useful on Flat in Ireland back in 2018. Just modest over hurdles for this yard but fared back on Flat when fourth at Ascot 2 weeks ago. Al Kout and Dancing Harry were ahead of him, though. Blinkered.

Improved for step up to 1¾m when scoring at Bath last autumn. Better effort this term when fourth over 1¾m here 3 weeks ago and leaves impression step back up to 2m could suit. Headgear back on.

Had 3 of these rivals behind him when snapping a losing run over 1¾m here (good) 3 weeks ago. Just as effective at 2m and ought to give another good account.

Has failed to add to 2-y-o debut success, but proved reliable in handicaps last term and ran creditable again when third of 8 at Ascot (2m, good to soft) 13 days ago. Cheekpieces go on first time.

Unexposed 4-y-o who made a solid start in handicaps for his new yard when third to Orin Swift on 1¾m course reappearance 3 weeks ago. Should be suited by 2m. Respected.

Struggled in the Cesarewitch on final start of last term, but was otherwise progressive in 2020 and won't be found wanting fitness-wise (hurdles winner in March). Has had wind surgery.

Good second on AW first 2 outings this year. Not so good at Lingfield (AW again) last time, though. Well beaten on sole previous Flat start on turf but did win an Ascot bumper earlier in career.

Good record on AW, winning twice and placed 9 times from 17 starts on artificial surfaces. Showed he's still effective on turf when 2 lengths second (Dancing Harry third) at Ascot (2m) 14 days ago.

No Flat win since 2016 but latest C&D course second of 5 was creditable. This looks a more competitive race, though.

Forecasts

East Asia (11/5), Dancing Harry (9/2), Mr Chua (11/2), Solar Screen (13/2), Tigerten (10/1), Al Kout (11/1), Prince Imperial (14/1), Orin Swift (25/1), Platitude (33/1), Where's Tom (33/1), Clongowes (40/1), Neverbeen To Paris (40/1), Be My Sea (50/1)

Verdict

EAST ASIA had a fair bit in hand when making a successful start for the Ian Williams stable at Newbury a week ago and could take a bit of stopping under a 5 lb penalty if seeing out the longer trip. Solar Screen, Prince Imperial and Orin Swift are quite closely matched on recent course form and head the dangers.

  1. EAST ASIA (IRE)
  2. SOLAR SCREEN (IRE)
  3. PRINCE IMPERIAL (USA)
