Back on the AW after another modest display on turf latest; on a handy mark but yet to really fire since joining his current yard. Stern ask under top weight.

Southwell winner in January (dead-heat) and makes his Tapeta debut here. Beaten a long way at Haydock last time but was in good form prior to that and a return to AW/a drop back in trip could both suit.

Still on a competitive mark despite going up 4lb for winning over 7f here latest; has won over further so today's trip not an issue. Raises his game at this track and still a threat to all; one that's safer to have on your side.

Won on the Polytrack at Kempton two years ago but been on the downgrade since. Now on a career lowest mark and is untested on this surface, he's got more questions to answer than a good few of the rest.

Another course debutante that, having been well held over an extended 1m2f at Haydock (twice), he also has something to prove back over this trip. Others look stronger candidates for top honours.

Not stood much racing but posted his best effort for a while while when third of 11 at Chelmsford last month. He's down in grade here and can feasibly raise his game to be in the thick of the action. Rider's 7lb claim a further positive.

First run since last October and is untested at this trip; has course experience but that was over 7f and this looks a tougher ask after such a long time out.

Good effort when second at Haydock latest (Makthecat 1½L behind in third that day) and has solid claims if using that as a platform. A strong case can be made that he'll handle the switch to Tapeta and a bold run looks on the cards.

Behind both Thorn and Makthecat last time out and work to do to reverse the form with either of those two rivals. He does, however, have an edge in terms of previous course experience so it's possible he can play a part. Betting can guide.

Finding it hard to get his head in front and stay there at the moment and three defeats on turf in 2020 have been taken on the chin. He won here during his days with Karl Burke but the lengthy losing sequence means a lot is taken on trust.

Latest start was a move in the right direction but he needs to find more now he's back over this trip and running on a surface that has been a tricky one for him to deal with in the past. Others look more open to raising their game this time.

Done his best work at the finish to win his last two starts and has previously had no issues with running over 1m ((dual winner over the trip last August). Still potentially well treated despite a 5lb higher mark; wide draw not ideal though.

Eased when beaten at Beverley last time out so hard to say where that fits in after a better effort on his seasonal debut at Pontefract a month earlier. He goes well here and is only 3lb above his last winning mark; chance if he bounces back.

Forecasts

Guvenor's Choice (6/1), Canasta (13/2), Muraahin (13/2), Thorn (7/1), Makthecat (7/1), Dawn Breaking (9/1), Street Poet (10/1), Sirius Slew (12/1), San Sebastian (14/1), Woodside Wonder (16/1), Roller (16/1), Hold Still (16/1), Universal Effect (50/1)

Verdict

STREET POET has hit form at the right time for this and shoulder's just 4lb more as he bids to follow up last month's 7f win at this course. He stays this trip well and again looks a leading light in this company. Dawn Breaking is another that arrives in top form and merits serious consideration, while Canasta and Thorn can also make sure this a good scrap and the selection doesn't have things all his own way. Makthecat is another that is no back number at this level.
  1. Street Poet
  2. Dawn Breaking
  3. Canasta
