Dual winner at the trip including C&D success in May last year; well held since joining this yard and even with cheekpieces back on an may continue in that vein.
Knocked on the door a couple of times in four runs this term; appeals as being on a workable mark (eased 1lb here) and chance in this; one of two for Richard Fahey.
Hasn't won since 2018, a sequence now out to 16 runs; good effort over 1m2f at Ripon in June in stronger race than this; gives Richard Fahey a strong hand.
Remains clear of winning mark; just 1-15 in total but most recent Windsor run over this trip was something to work with and chance here with Marco Ghiani taking off 5lb.
Both wins (turf and AW) over this trip and beaten only a half-length at Newbury (1m, good; 12-1) last month on second start back after wind op; mark unchanged and needs considering on that showing.
Now a 10-year-old and beat nothing home on recent return to action at Thirsk (7f, good to soft; 66-1); that's not untypical on seasonal bow but regularly takes time to get into stride.
Poor strike-rate (2-27) with both those wins coming on artificial surfaces; fourth of six over 1m2f here last time and likely each-way claims at best from 2lb lower.
5-27 career record with three turf wins; well held in two starts over the mile at Sandown and Newbury since returning with this new handler and may need more relief than the 4lb he's got since.
Four-time winner from 1m-1m2f on good ground or softer. Has twice made the frame over 1m2f at Windsor and Pontefract this summer; well held at Haydock most recently and may find this trip sharp enough these days.
Excellent second over 1m at Newmarket last month in a fillies' handicap off 3lb lower mark; in a higher grade today but Georgia Dobie's claim certainly helps. Sound chance.
Obliged as favourite when a cosy winner of a 1m Windsor handicap latest. 4lb rise does little to dampen enthusiasm so she's again a leading player.
Took advantage of tumbling mark to win over C&D in June; very game having been challenged after leading. Not able to see it out as well since at Newmarket and overall profile suggests he's opposable again.
Forecasts
Furqaan (4/1), Madame Tantzy (11/2), Dargel (6/1), Kodiac Harbour (13/2), Canal Rocks (13/2), Society Red (11/1), Zlatan (12/1), Enigmatic (14/1), Zap (14/1), Global Art (22/1), Destroyer (28/1), Big Storm Coming (80/1)
A tough get-out stakes for punters here. FURQAAN got off the mark at Windsor last month, showing determination to come between horses and put her head in front. She's up 4lb for that but the lightly-raced Dark Angel filly may go on from that winning experience. Madame Tantzy was a good second at Newmarket last time and may go well with a claim more than offsetting her 3lb increase. The Richard Fahey pair Zap and Society Red are also worth considering.
- Furqaan
- Madame Tantzy
- Society Red
