Outran his 22-1 SP at Newmarket on debut over 6f overcoming inexperience to beat a subsequent winner staying on well to score comfortable. Will require a different set of abilities here to follow up, has to be respected even under his penalty.
18,000gns yearling, newcomer, first foal, dam, 1m4f winner who stayed 1m6f, half-sister to useful 1m-1m4f winner (barely stays 2m) Manjaam. On pedigree may well need further despite the trainer having a good record here with 2yo's.
Offered little on his recent debut going with little fluency over 5.1f here, never involved after a slow start. Up to 6f but this would appear all too competitive for now.
£4,000 yearling who showed some pace on his turf debut at Windsor (6.1f) recently although je did fade rather quickly. Yard yet to have a 2yo winner this season (0-8), looks one more for later on.
£37,000 Breeze-Up purchase by first-season sire Mehmas (made a good impression), runs for rookie trainer (2-11 in current season). Sixth foal: half-brother to winner up to 1m2f Vatican Hill (2-y-o 7f winner), dam, of little account, interesting sort.
Improved effort on second start despite starting at a big price had been gelded after his debut. Didn't see the race out fully last time over 6f, would be one to look out for in nurseries after this run given his profile overall.
One of two the stable run in this with this one being a newcomer by Tough As Nails, €3,200 yearling. Brother to useful 6f-1m winner Tough Remedy and half-brother to several winners, gelded for his debut, would need to be useful to play a part.
Shaped encouragingly on his Goodwood 6f debut with things not going his way early on but visibly leaning through the race, nearest finish. Not disgraced considering the two that finished in front of him, should be competitive here, shortlisted.
Finished well beaten on his debut at Redcar but was given a considerate introduction (drawn on the wrong side). Left behind from 2f out he will have benefitted from the experience and may well show up more prominently here.
Still in need of the experience when going backwards from what was a promising 6.1f Chepstow debut over the same C&D last time. Didn't see things out as well this time and now left with questions to answer switching to the AW for the first time.

Forecasts
Apres Dark (5/4), The Princes Poet (11/4), Echo Beach (5/1), Roman Dynasty (7/1), Rivers Lad (12/1), Eva Icon (18/1), Split Elevens (40/1), Apollo One (50/1), The Nail Gunner (80/1), Vivacious Boy (80/1), Garydoubleyou (200/1)
Hard to pick too many holes in the debut win of Apres Dark at Newmarket but he does face a rather different test here under a penalty on a different surface over a trip that will prove a much sharper test. For that reason it may be worth siding with the Goodwood third THE PRINCES POET from a yard going well with their 2yo’s. He showed more than enough promise on debut against two above-average types to be the selection here. Of the newcomers both Echo Beach and Roman Dynasty look of interest although the first-named may well need a stiffer test to see him at his best.
- The Princes Poet
- Apres Dark
- Roman Dynasty
