Smart handicapper who is seen in nearly every top-class sprint handicap (gone close in several). Gained a much deserved victory eased in grade in terms of competitiveness at Pontefract off 3lb lower, Group 3 beyond him last time, stiff task off 108.

Regular in this type of contest, back to form last time in top-class Curragh sprint handicap (6.3f) producing just about a career-best run. Headed right on the line he's up 4lb for that effort, should remain competitive, this scenario suits him well.

Belied an unflattering SP (40-1) to score at Newmarket (6f, good/firm) off a break in June (beat Summerghand) off a 5lb lower mark. Not hit the same heights since although did run well over 5.1f at Sandown, ran poorly at Newbury (Group 3) last time.

Unreliable/quirky sort who belied that demeanour to win the Wokingham (6f, good) four days after finishing well beaten over 7f at the Royal meeting. First-time blinkers/positive ride rejuvenating him, needs to be caught in the right mood again.

Lightly-raced sort for his age who ran well on handicap debut last time at Newbury when second to Nahaarr over 6f, 7lb better off for 2.5L. May have found his forte returned to handicaps/sprinting with both previous wins coming at 6f.

Capped a good season (four wins) by taking the Ayr Gold Cup showing himself well equipped to cope with big fields. Failed to shown much in Dubai at the start of the year, ran even worse back on home soil, well beaten in Wokingham last time.

Improved with just about every run winning first four career starts at up to 7f. Went like the best horse at the weights in the Silver Wokingham (finished third), backed that run up with a Newbury 6f win last time, looks a very smart sprinter.

Last three wins have come at Listed/Group level but struggled after winning Group 2 at the Curragh (6f) in May last year. Never really involved in either run this year (well held in Wokingham last time), starting to get some slack from handicapper.

Useful performer who bounced back from the one blip on his dance card to add a third win of the year with a career-best performance at Hamilton (6f, good) off 6lb lower. Soon in command he won in good style, open to further progress, leading player.

Built on the promise of his winter AW runs when winning at Newmarket (6f) on return under a good ride, followed up with another sound run in the Wokingham (finished fifth). Easy to back, not seen to best effect when fourth to Nahaarr last time.

Made a really good start to life with this yard adding a second win from three starts at Windsor (6.1f, good/firm) last time, made all under optimum conditions. Takes a rise in class now and more required off a career-high mark, fair account likely.

Landed a first GB win last time taking a competitive Haydock (6f, firm) handicap (previous win came in French Listed 2yo race). Not the first 4yo to get things back on track after a tough 3yo season, up5lb, no reason he won't be involved.

Enigmatic customer who has plenty of quirks but can be useful on his day as shown by his two Ascot handicap victories last year, the latter off 6lb lower. Given a considerate reappearance after nine-months off, should be sharper for that outing.

Reinvented as a sprinter this year winning twice at Windsor and Newmarket over 6f proving too good for some experienced rivals last time. Already a debut C&D winner, 6lb higher, race should play to his strengths off a strong pace, still improving.

Best suited by Ascot having won there off a 2lb higher mark last August, suffered contrasting fortunes at the same track this year, ruined his chance with a slow start last time. Eighth in this last year (5lb higher), his quirks could be his undoing.

Failed to run a bad race last year although he did have only one success to show for his efforts finally ending a near five year losing period (lightly-raced in that time). Not quite in the same form this year, fluffed the start at Windsor last time.

Improved form to get off the mark on turf debut (back off a wind op) over 6f at Newmarket. Followed up in good style over the same C&D (handicap debut), acquitted himself well last time (much stiffer test), remains capable of better in this sphere.

Course winner (7f) early last year, not won since then (losing run starting to mount) but caught the eye last time over 7f things not really going his way (finished with running left). Of interest off this mark, acts over 6f, one to make shortlist.

0-6 here, back down to last winning mark although he's not really looking as though he in top form currently. Well held last time in a race that didn't play to his strengths, needs to come into this in better form to be assured of making an impact.

Took a Newcastle AW 5f handicap in January producing a powerful finish off a strong pace (his ideal scenario) to win off 3lb lower. Couple of useful 5f runner-up slots since prior to turning in a poor Ascot effort last time (not for the first time).

Back to winning ways on the day racing resumed off a reduced mark at Newcastle (6f) indicating that he is often best fresh. Aided by a seven-week break he produced a solid effort last time at Ripon (6f), this quick return is not ideal for him.

Dual C&D winner last year (got one race on a disqualification), won three times since then all at 6f. Showed a willing attitude to win at Chelmsford off a 227-day break, still looked in good heart last time at Windsor when caught dying strides.

Dual 5f winner last year, she's looked slightly unfortunate not to add to that total this year having excuses for all of her last three defeats. Shaped much better than the bare result last time (drawn away from main action), remains of interest.

Wolverhampton 6.1f winner in February prior to not really being seen to best effect when returning to action in June at Newcastle (6f), marooned away from the action. Below-par last time, now with a new yard this looks a tougher test that usual.

Gave a hint on his penultimate run that he may still be capable of some useful form pushing Summerghand close at Pontefract over 6f off a lenient mark. Blotted his copybook last time when blowing the start at York showing his quirky side.

Four-time winner for Mark Johnston who was quickly into stride for this yard scoring at Ripon (6f, good) without the usual visor, going with zest. Shaped as still in good form at Ascot (5f) last time despite 50-1 price tag; this requires more again.

Verdict

There appears to be pace in all parts of the draw (1.50 may give some clues). The David O’Meara pair Summerghand and Gulliver head the weights both having claims in this type of race where they have performed well before. Nahaarr still has improvement left in him as a sprinter and his Newbury win last time (beat Watan and Silent Echo) rates a smart piece of form. 3yo’s have won three of the last five renewals (all started favourite), unlikely that either of the two from that age group will do so this year but both MERAAS (fine display last time) and Lexington Dash are major contenders this time around. Kimifive, Wedding Date and Chairmanoftheboard are others to consider.
